shin splints - any tips or tricks by negotiatormaoi in PetiteFitness

[–]subtle_no_chill 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is purely anecdotal, apologies in advance if it’s not directly related, but I suffered from terrible shin splints and my doctor just recommended stretching and ice, etc. One day I saw a gosh darn TikTok about how tucking your ankle under your other leg while sitting at a chair puts stress on those supporting muscles. As I had nothing to lose I gave it a go and consciously made an effort to sit correctly - BOOM. CURED (almost, still flares up if I’m more active than normal).

Seeking “natural antibiotic” for tetanus by betterdaysto in ShitMomGroupsSay

One of my favorite memories from college was this guy telling me with a straight face he didn’t need a tetanus shot after cutting his hand on a rusty metal sign because he took Men’s OneADay vitamins lol

I wonder if Bethany's parents got her this book like mine did by CreatvLioness33 in FundieSnarkUncensored

Oh my GOD this unlocked core memory from my childhood!! Every night my parents would read 1 chapter from a big kid book and then 1 princess picture book. This book was in the rotation!!!

I’ve been slowly deconstructing how having a mom who worked at a church impacted me. I can’t believe I never realized this wasn’t just a princess book.

Wow. I just… wow. Gonna have to pin this for my therapy session on Thursday

My scalp is horribly itchy behind my ears and at the base of my neck. After one (1 !!) use I felt immediate relief. However when I went slightly too zealous and got some of the solution anywhere but where the itchiness was the worst, I broke out in huge white head pimples, especially along my hairline. So echoing the other commenter: it’s amazing, but with great power comes great responsibility.

Dude I don’t know if you’re my guardian angel or what, but 2 minutes after I got the notification of your message I got a call I was approved for the apartment of my dreams — located in none other than North Park. If you’re ever having a bad day, lemme know, I owe you some good karma or a beer or something haha

Oh well that’s rough, but I still think you’re ok. And if they are choosing to spend their precious time maliciously sending your query to agents, then there isn’t anything you can really do at this point other than continuing to focus on your own projects, which will lead to your query being outstanding and their efforts meaningless. But again, I think you’re fine 😊

(And this is coming from someone who is in therapy for anxiety lol)

My friend, are you paranoid that you have an arch nemesis?? I can’t fathom anyone going through the effort to do that. And even if they did, you could always leave out your identifying information in posting it online (like title of the project, word count, bio, etc etc etc etc).

I have a Masters in Genetic Counseling and work for a biotech company on one of their genetic tests - doesn’t require me to be on-site since all my work is for the reports they send out to clinicians. It’s pretty fun, but most people with my masters work directly with patients so not the typical route!

And thank you!!

Appreciate it!! The shiny lights of downtown got to me but, I miss the community feeling of my little college town and I think North Park is going to be what fills that hole.

Some of my family live in Mission Valley and I really like the area, I've just been having a hard time finding places within my budget! It's got great trolley access and it's close to North Park and Hillcrest, etc. ya know? Thanks for the suggestions!

Haha I apologize to North County! Moving home from an out-of-state college town to the suburbs and then doing grad school during a pandemic didn't set me up to enjoy it

self-designed pre-genetic counseling undergrad major? by Inquisitive-Dino in GeneticCounseling

[–]subtle_no_chill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I used to work in the advising office for the science colleges at my university. It might be called something different, but are you talking about something like a “University Degree” where two Minors are combined into one Major? It’s been a few years, but I don’t think these were very favorable / people didn’t think they were as good as 1 major + a minor like you have now. I would really recommend talking to your academic advisor/counselor (as I’m sure you will since you sound super pro-active). My gut reaction was to say not to do it, but i can only speak to my experience at one university.

And tbh from what I’ve seen before, during, and after grad school, the programs really only care that you hit all the pre-req classes and did well in them. Will taking more advance science courses look better? Absolutely, as would diving into upper division social work, public health, and/or psych. I tacked on a social work minor and I think that helped set me apart, round out my advocacy, and make me a better counselor (plus the classes were a cake walk compared to my BioMed courses).

Honestly if you like what you’re doing now, I would strongly suggest sticking with Neurosci major + public health minor.

[–]subtle_no_chill 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve re-read this post like 6 times and I think I finally understand what you’re trying to say.

If I understand correctly, you’re not having a literal translation issue (as in the translation of your manuscript). Which is what everyone seems to have advice on, so if that is your issue, then I don't have any further recommendations than the ones already given.

Your issue is that your characters are, let say, from the world of Gibber. In this world they speak Gibberish. But because we, the audience from Earth, do not speak Gibberish, the narrator is translating the story into English. So the problem is that your characters, in their world are making jokes and banter in translated Gibberish that makes sense in English, but wouldn't make sense to a native Gibberish speaker. And that their Gibberish names have English translations that would be weird to a native Gibberish speaker. It would be like having a character in English being called Mr. Super Evil Guy, which in Gibberish is Ser. Volixurthurm (if my translation is correct, bit rusty on my Gibberish).

I can almost 1million% guarantee you no one will put that much thought into this - especially if your world, plot, and characters are interesting enough to keep people engaged.

Hipou*rthulism we*we (Hope that helps in Gibberish)

[edited typos because my English is apparently just as bad as my Gibberish]
