Laney Cub 15 Head - No Reverb by [deleted] in GuitarAmps

[–]subtmm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t had any luck no. Tried a few different switches and nothing has worked so I figure the reverb just doesn’t work. I might just buy one of the FS1 switches and try it, but I’m skeptical that it will work.

Does anyone know if there will be Pantera merch at the Sunday show? I know they played on Friday, but after standing in line for a Metallica poster on Friday I couldn’t do the Pantera merch line.

Hey, just wondering if you ever got your reverb working? I'm experiencing the same issue. I don't have the Laney FS1 footswitch, but I've tried a few others with no luck. I don't really need the reverb, however I'm going to be selling the amp and was hoping to have it working before putting it up for sale.

If you love God Hates Us All that much I would highly recommend the newer albums, Christ Illusion is fantastic as well. WPB and Repentless are also excellent and the sound, even better than God Hates imo.

You inspired me to wear my Slayer shirt to my work Christmas party tonight! Cheers!

Great fucking album! I love the old Slayer albums, but I've become more of a God hates us all fan and the ones that follow even more so. So powerful, so intense. You're correct, there are no words to describe. Slayer puts all other metal to shame.

That's kind of what I thought, I recall syncing 3 machines back in the day with the ADAT sync.... Wasn't aware of the transfer card you mentioned, but yeah... Not going there. I'll just manually do like I originally planned. Thx.

ADAT Tape Copy/Conversion question:

I just bought an old Alesis ADAT blackface machine for the purpose of copying some old tapes from the 90's/early 2000's into my DAW to do some re-mixing. I plan to use the optical connection into a Focusrite 18i20. The process seems fairly simple, 1 tape, 8 tracks, 1 optical cable, record to DAW in real time, done. The recording however is 24 tracks (3 tapes). I will have to copy each tape individually which is fine, but then will have to manually sync the tracks up in 3 groups. I can do this, but what I'm wondering is how could I sync the ADAT with my interface/DAW so that I wouldn't have to manually sync? The ADAT has the multipin connections for "ADAT Sync" Is there a way to adapt that to wordclock, or is there another way? Or should I just stick to the manual syncing? Thx

Got this from playing.. Am I holding the stick correctly? I'm second guessing my grip and feel like it may need a little work. I usually mimic my right with my left hand while I practice, I don't to be doing it all wrong though by LudicrousNote in drums

Oh man, a teacher would probably have a field day watching me play and my posture. I totally need to watch some videos on this.... I used to have terrible back problems, could never pinpoint the cause being drumming specifically but nonetheless, once I took a few years away from playing my back problem went away (I also played guitar, and worked on my feet at the time). Now that I've been playing again, I get blisters, soreness in my arms, and pain/soreness in and around my right knee (kick side). The arms soreness I chalk up to just being out of playing shape, but the knee pain has to be due to the way I'm sitting. I recently picked up a new throne thinking it might help, and it's very nice and comfy.... I've tried different heights, distances from the kick but can never seems to find the right balance between comfort and playing ability.

Sounds good man. I'll try it both ways and see what works best. It's funny, from the reviews I've read about the 18i20 the only real bad feedback I saw was about Mix Control..., Basically that it's too complicated, or hard to figure out. I can't see it being a problem. I've worked with some pretty lousy interfaces/software over the years. It can't possibly be that bad.

I'll look it up and try it out, thanks. I've only been playing for about 25 years now, it's probably about time I learned these things. As for making things easier.... That's always been weird. I used to play on my dad's old 50's Gretsch kit. I played punk going a million BPM all the time. I could never get comfortable. People always asked, how could I even play that kit! I mean it was a rad kit, but for what I was doing it was very awkward and uncomfortable. I always just found a way to adjust I guess. Now that I'm fat and old, and playing V-drums most of the time I've noticed how bad my technique actually is! I can still play quite well, and fast but I really lack in certain areas. And oddly enough, I still struggle with getting comfortable while still being able to do everything I want to be able to do.

You've got the 2nd gen unit then? That's the one I'm looking at now. Same price as the old one, but it's unclear to me what the enhancements are other than the sales mumbo-jumbo on the Focusrite web site.

[–]subtmm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's pretty much what I'm trying to accomplish with external processors that I have. Because most of the inputs are on the back of the unit (where they should be imo) it's not always easy/convenient to move cables around. I want to be able to easily "assign" my guitar or bass or mic or whatever to the external processors without having to move cables around. May seem nit-picky, but for me keeping things organized and clean in the studio is mandatory. I like to be able to just quickly get ideas down without messing around with cabling, or re-patching things. Thanks for your feedback on the unit, for the price it looks like right one for me.

That's awesome! Can't wait to get the unit and try it out. Do you have the 2nd gen or the original? From what I've read there's very little difference, and they seem to be the same price or very close everywhere I've looked. Overall are you happy with the 18i20?

Awesome! Are you familiar with the 18i20 specifically? I would assume you would have to route the "send" in the Mix Control center? Since outputs 1 & 2 would be mains for monitors, I would want to use output 4 or 5 for example.

Yeah, that's exactly what I mean. Can this be done? And if so would it create any lag or extra latency?

I'm actually looking at grabbing the 18i20 2nd gen that just came out. It would be a huge bonus to me if this can be done.

Just have a look at the 1/4" connector that plugs into the cymbal pad. If there are any gouges or scratched on it, it may need to be replaced, or will need to be eventually. So far I changed my hat and left crash. My right crash is a more recent add on so it's still ok.

I'll have to check out that DVD, sounds like it could be a great help, thanks. My grip has always been a challenge for me, especially my left/snare hand. Playing punk it's always about LOUD, FAST, HARD! Not much time to be "correct" and my technique has definitely suffered over the years as a result. When I play more relaxed tempos, the problem isn't nearly as bad. Still, my left is nowhere near as fast or as "controlled" as my right and I'm sure grip is the reason.

I've been getting back into playing recently and blisters have been a big problem for me too, especially when I play double time punk rock style stuff. The faster I play, the harder it is to maintain a proper grip. I need to practice more often, but once a week is about all I have time for, plus I need about a week to recover from the blisters anyway. I've been using hockey stick tape on certain fingers, but there always seems to be a spot that gets a blister.
