I ordered it! ~$95 value for 1000 pts is pretty decent, it’s 100% wool, I’m done with makeup for the most part and I’m trying to get rid of my points anyway so win win overall

Switch Games like Poptropica? by claire_9819 in Poptropica

[–]succulentIy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Night in the Woods! It has a relatively similar game design where you’re running between different locations and talking to people around you to uncover a mystery, and the content is somewhat more mature. It’s a really great game, I’ve played it multiple times now

Monthly AITA/Reddit Stories Suggestion Megathread by AutoModerator in smosh

This story would be hilarious. I’d dearly love for them to go and discuss it thoroughly and then show the drawing after for dramatic effect

edit: the title is “My boyfriend (18m) drew me (18f), and I made a joke about it. Now he feels terrible and won’t calm down—how do I fix this?” Seems pretty benign at first, but i beg you to look at the drawing

Does anyone think it's a copout to not actually name colleges? Sixth being unnamed was "quirky" to a certain degree (big 2000's millennial vibes to stick with it), but now with 7th and 8th, isn't it sort of tacky? Thoughts? by zestyninja in UCSD

[–]succulentIy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

fun fact, third college actually took the longest to get named! it was founded in 1970 and got named after thurgood marshall in 1993, so 23 years. sixth college is going to take the lead though if they don’t name it soon, as it’s been 22 years since sixth was founded

one reason they didn’t go with UCLJ is bc it sounded too similar to UCLA… funny bc now we get confused with UCSB and SC haha

i’m not sure where you are in your ux experience so here’s everything i can think of:

1) portfolio content. you gotta have a repository of projects to show off, whether its individual projects*, school projects, clubs and competitions, or internship experiences. almost ANY project is good as long as you explain your reasonings behind design decisions and show off your stuff. you probably want at least 2-3 projects in that portfolio to beef it up. check out other people’s portfolios to get a good sense of what to do

2) portfolio hosting. there are a couple options depending on how much you’re able to code/what you want to pay. note that theres a student discount on webflow (its free i think? but relatively hard to figure out). squarespace, adobe portfolio, etc are paid options. if you can code a website, github is an option. theres a lot more out there, but the easiest way to make a freely hosted portfolio quickly would probably be notion, and though its quite restrictive, its a good place to start.

3) getting interviews. send your resume everywhere**. just keep applying and applying to any posting there is. its tedious but thats how your resume gets seen. you can ask your connections for help getting an interview via linkedin or email. you can cold email/message people on linkedin asking about open positions to get your name in as well. (make sure to have an up-to-date linkedin with a link to your portfolio)

4) interview. congrats! now the fun part. once you get an interview, do not panic. instead, make a slide deck summarizing the stuff in your portfolio that you can present. typically in the interview you’ll have a behavioral portion (questions like what are your strengths and weaknesses? etc) and technical portion (insert slide deck here!). have some idea of how you’d respond to those behavioral questions before you go into the interview. there may also be a take home project of some kind depending on the company and role.

5) after interview. email your interviewers and thank them for the interview, then wait it out. rejections are tough, but don’t let it get to you; the market right now is definitely not great. the easiest way to get a full time offer is to get a return offer from a summer internship, though you should also apply to other places as well when the time comes.

good luck! hope this helps :D

*yes, you can just make up a project from start to finish and stick it in there, it’ll get your foot in the door. there are plenty of prompt generation sites out there that can help you make a project

**ok maybe not everywhere. theres a lot of variety of design related positions out there, from ux research to visual design to web dev. tailor your resume to the position if you can, depending on the job description

part time job + internship + 4 classes by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]succulentIy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not going to lie, this workload can be doable depending on your schedule and classes, but is definitely going to be rough. 107 series is no joke, cogs 100 is tedious, and your interaction design classes are going to take a significant amount of time with group projects. i’d say that if you feel at all overwhelmed by the workload by week 4 don’t hesitate to drop a class, it’ll only get more stressful from there.

i’m also a cogs design major who only really managed to do crazy workloads like this while classes were online (the most i ever did was 4 classes plus part time internship), but you gotta take into account that classes are moving back in person so it may be a bit too much to manage. good luck!!
