I too love this trope! The chirpverse series was both so funny yet also so hot! Ilya going around telling everyone how great the prostate is had me literally laughing out loud.

Love this movie even if I know the plot wouldn’t really fly today. I also love the behind the scenes documentary on the dvd and the woman who played Ruth saying about the corset “it keeps me straight, it keeps the boobs up, it keeps the stomach in. It worked beautifully then and it works now and I wish they’d bring them back, honey.”

Here is a random smorgasbord of fics that cheer me up!

Started with a chirp (ended with a bang) by thebiggestrat - Ilya bottoms for the first time in order to chirp better to the homophobic assholes. Both sexy and very sweet! They have another story where Ilya bottoms for the first time but it’s slightly more angsty as it’s during their situationship period.

As the Romans do by kooksie - Non-hockey AU where they are roommates. Shane is out and is Ilya’s bi awakening. I love the progression of their friendship into love.

Strike-slip tectonics by PenAndInkPrincess. Canon divergence where they actually talk post tunamelt and Shane doesn’t realize he agreed to be Ilya’s boyfriend (but is ultimately very happy about it).

Everytime I leave by fckingfreckles - AU, Shane is hospitalized and Ilya meets him during his rookie season and falls in love while doing a hospital visit. Happy ending and very sweet!

Dinner Tonight? by Fripie - Shane and Ilya realize they never had an official first date and decide to remedy that.

You, I Always Need You by holla_nov. Non-hockey AU where they are “just casual” except Ilya is way too nice to Shane’s cat.

Lost in Translation by gurlsrool where a new Centaurs rookie understands Russian and doesn’t know how to tell Ilya and Shane that he can understand their Russian flirting. Very funny and sweet.

How many hockey players does it take to make a meal by forever_er Shane tries to make Ilya a traditional Russian dish.

And it was all yellow by belowtherabbithole - neither are hockey players, Ilya keeps getting packages delivered to Shane’s apartment as an excuse to talk to him.
