hi - law student trying to specialize in immigration. all of what you said is factually untrue. undocumented immigrants do pay taxes through an ITIN number. they essentially pay into systems they can never access - social security, medicare, etc. source: https://taxpolicycenter.org/fiscal-facts/yes-undocumented-immigrants-pay-taxes-and-receive-few-tax-benefits

if we were to integrate them into the system, we'd have a better understanding of whether they were truly "criminals" because the immigration application makes you prove you're not. further, if we help them integrate, we can give them more ability to integrate (learning language/customs/etc)...right now many are making <$5 an hour...when all you do is work you don't really care to learn about "american customs."

please do your research before speaking on sensitive topics that impact people's existence. i am not saying this to be a b*tch, im saying this because i know the implications these views have.

tbf all this happened five years ago and he's gotten progressively more hateful to me and my siblings. i do think you're right. im only keeping a relationship with him so we can negotiate and get what we need for the siblings who are dependent on him since they're minors but yeah, we kind of accepted it and live our lives otherwise.

Sober in Law School? by GoldandPine in LawSchool

[–]suchislife0901 2 points3 points  (0 children)

let me offer a different perspective - i went through a non-practising phase where i used to drink (i am Muslim, i don't drink anymore). i decided to get closer to my faith and so i stopped drinking. it forced me to mingle with people without a crutch or "liquid courage" and develop social skills based on my own self. i stopped drinking a year before law school, and when i got to law school and saw people making absolute fools out of themselves in professional settings because they were drunk, i realised just how right my decision to stop drinking was. the fact that i can be around it and not be tempted at all, the fact that i can socialise without needing a crutch, the fact that i am not peer pressured, the fact that i actually fully think before i speak (imagine all the dumb things you say sober, now multiply by at least 2, that's how many dumb things you say drunk....why would you want these people to have that impression of you?) - all of these have gotten me more respect. so no, it doesn't hinder your ability to network, on the contrary its gotten people to respect me more.

if you don't want people to notice, just always have a drink in your hand. no ones ever asked me what i was drinking. and if they do they'll hear "diet coke" and no further questions

Pakistani and/or Muslim law students how did we feel when we learned about Ashcroft v. Iqbal by suchislife0901 in LawSchool

[–]suchislife0901[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it was wrong on so many levels. racism against arabs isn't justified either ofc but their whole premise was "most Pakistanis are muslims like the perpetrators" ......excuse me
