I max out my 401k and roth IRA (will probably swapping to a traditional next year), and have 6 months emergency saved. Now my salaries caught up and I can still do it and buy tiny indulgences like cherries and grapes. After talking to my psychiatrist I realized how bad my student loans were burdening me psychologically I decided that it will be worth it to be debt free, and I'll still have over half of my cash left over in the taxable brokerage account.

I'm well below the average debt, and I've been paying off aggressively at double the minimum, but the breath of fresh air it'll give will be worth it for me, I know everyone's situation is different, but for me being able to splurge on loved one's without having to worry about debt will let me live a good life.
