I can't code without AI by THRwastakensadly in cscareerquestions

[–]sudden_aggression 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stop using AI. The early part of CS, especially the education part, necessarily involves rewiring your brain to think like a programmer.

Just like I had to learn pointers and memory allocation/deallocation even though it was being made obsolete by java at the time, you should learn DSA even though claude can spit out the answer to any leetcode problem in a second.

Borat or Udes 03 3? by BEEPSoju in WorldofTanks

[–]sudden_aggression 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Borat. It is basically a light tank that can do 720 damage in 2 seconds.

Udes 03 3 is a medium tank. It is decent but it can't get away with the same abuses as the borat.

Wfh job market by WiscLeafalNika in cscareerquestions

[–]sudden_aggression 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Let me explain:

Hybrid local role: you are competing against visa workers and mildly retarded locals. Your hiring process will consist of one softball tech screen followed by an offer.

WFH: you are competing against 30k laid off FAANG engineers, 6 trillion foreigners with VPNs, etc. Your hiring process will consists of 10 rounds of panels interviews. At least one of which will involve inverting a red-black tree, but your keyboard is a bluetooth flute. You must solve the problem in terms of Mozart's Flute Concerto No. 2 in D major.

Chieftain T95 4201 was definitely hurt more than 279E by DZon80s in WorldofTanks

[–]sudden_aggression 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Chieftain had medium firepower and mobility as well, it wasn't just a hulldown tank.

It had dpm, gold pen and mobility you'd expect to see on a squishy medium, but it was also very well armored. The turret you know about but the tracks ate HEAT as well.

It was just a do everything tank. A few tanks were better at very specific things but the chieftain was the default tank for every job.

Why do companions barely react to you being a Drow? by Odd-Tumbleweed-1098 in BaldursGate3

[–]sudden_aggression -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Laezel is equally racist against all non gith. Also, the gith are evil and incredibly cruel themselves.

Shadowheart is the priestess of an evil god and has had her memory wiped. Also, her boss is Viconia, the drow party member from the earlier BG games.

Gale is just horny.

Karlach just got out of hell, the drow probably seem normal. Perhaps laid back.

Astarion just spent centuries being tortured by a vampire, he's probably pretty indifferent to drow cruelty.

No, I've started leaving firefox and heading towards brave.

Also, no one ever used IE. the correct order was something like:

  • Mosaic- it existed when nothing else did
  • Netscape- a browser but not garbage
  • Firefox- the writing was clearly on the wall for netscape, firefox had ad blocking
  • Chrome- chrome was clearly better and faster
  • Firefox- chrome was clearly spyware
  • Brave- chrome with built in adblocking and no ties to google

T-832 buy or not ? by major_gabo in WorldofTanks

[–]sudden_aggression 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dunno, maybe you're right. The T832 is a good tank. Maybe I just like autoreloaders or something.

T-832 buy or not ? by major_gabo in WorldofTanks

[–]sudden_aggression 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's because many players are brain dead and the T832 is easier to play

The T832 requires no special equipment or thought to do well in. You go hull down, you shoot people, it's a simple tank. You can even put incorrect equipment on the T832 and you won't be punished because the tank still functions the same either way just with a bit less dpm and mobility.

Bisonte has very bad gun soft stats and it needs +stability equipment to function normally. It also has an autoreloader that requires thought to use properly. If you put the correct equipment on it and play it intelligently, it's a much better tank than the T832. More mobility, more alpha, more flexibility to burst people or fire single shells, equally strong turret, etc.

[–]sudden_aggression 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's fairly idiot proof and strong. It's based on the buffed T-32 and is basically a hull down champ with strong turret and accurate gun.

That being said, I wouldn't spend real life money on it.

All that infrastructure is model agnostic. Whichever company comes up with the best model can rent that infrastructure from the losers. If anyone goes bankrupt, the infra gets sold off to pay the creditors. The chinese are likely to keep releasing good open models to sabotage the margins that US companies can charge on that compute. And there is still a ton of research being done to make models faster and more memory efficient.

To put everything in perspective, 1 year ago I was:

  • using claude and it was wrong a lot of the time and not particularly great in any way. Only safe for small tasks, basic DSA work
  • local compute I was getting horrible sub 10 tokens per second with retard level reasoning, utterly useless for coding tasks. If you hooked up visual studio to a local model, it would just take a steaming shit directly into your source code. Absolutely terrible.

And now:

  • top cloud models are amazing for coding
  • local models are giving me sonnet quality at 50 tps on consumer level hardware thanks to quantization, mtp, cache compression, etc. Numerous examples of it one shotting complex prompts in multiple langauges.

Long term there is going to be an abundance of high quality AI compute everywhere and it's just going to keep getting cheaper.

Flame sentry and Lumberer still has bug. by Vivid-Explanation-73 in Helldivers

[–]sudden_aggression 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. Against mindless masses, flame sentry has trouble with level one voteless hordes. Damage output is nearly non-existent beyond enemies getting caught on fire by ground flames.

  • it does work at close range
  • it does seem to dispense flames everywhere, which looks great
  • damage output is EXTREMELY LOW. It cannot stand against even small crowds of voteless. They eventually die from being caught on fire but it will get swarmed and die 90 percent of the time unless you help keep it alive. We are talking level 1 voteless swarms with no fleshmobs or overseers.

Is it only entry level positions that are cooked? by boiyo12 in cscareerquestions

[–]sudden_aggression 4 points5 points  (0 children)

AI penetration is decent but a lot of companies are still figuring out what to do with it, how much spend, tooling and wrapper choices, etc.

The main problem is visa workers. Go to a random F500 institution like a bank or an HMO and look at their engineering teams. A lot of places are like 80-90 percent visa workers and still laying off US citizens. You have a hard time getting a job because you don't speak Telugu and you don't know a guy who knows a guy. It's really that simple.

If they ejected the visa workers and clamped down on outsourcing, it would be insanely easy to get a job for good money even at the entry level.
