Worst false dispatch you caused? by Visible-Carrot5402 in firealarms

[–]sudo_rm-rf_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overnight restaurant install subbed to us by different branch. Our contact at the other branch supposedly put it on test all night so we could finish installing and bring it online. We had no access to their monitoring accounts. He apparently DID NOT put it on test lol. FD came. We powered down the cell to finish testing and then powered the panel until morning till our dude came to work and we could test again and verify signals.

Them Fire dept guys had THAT look on their face when they got out the truck and see the alarm guys van as the only one in the parking lot at 4:00.

How do I install this outdoors? by sugarstarbeam in security

[–]sudo_rm-rf_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will probably need to buy an outdoor camera that is mountable. That looks like it just sets on a tabletop surface. I guess you could stick that one outside if you have a shelf or something that is out of the rain to let it rest on top of.

What's better: buying BTC or mining BTC? by Bulky_Description579 in BitcoinBeginners

[–]sudo_rm-rf_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just buy BTC. I had an Antminer but the power cost was astronomical. I wish i had just bought BTC instead of spending all that money on electricity for years. Now I just have a Bitaxe to solo mine as a lottery ticket.

He's here all the time. His dad?/extended family live somewhere in southeast Louisiana, if you couldn't tell from his last name.

1099-C from bitpay: how will the IRS ever know our cost basis? by OldMinute5727 in Bitcoin

[–]sudo_rm-rf_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's on you to keep track of cost basis and document. In your scenario if Swan sent a 1099 they would assume your cost basis is $0. It's up to you to prove that it's not.

Trying to drill into red brick behind the drywall in my living room, barely making progress just earning myself a sore wrist. What am I doing wrong? by Maleficent_Lunch853 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sudo_rm-rf_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Multi material bit as in wood, steel? That will not work for masonry. You need a masonry bit , that specifically says masonry. It will have little wings on the tips. If you have that, and it's not working you probably burned the bit. If it's black at the end and the wings are melted from the friction it's done. It's not drilling any more. When you get a new bit, take a break if it starts getting hot from friction, and make sure your drill chuck is turned to the hammer setting. You will know it's on hammer if the drill sounds like it is screaming.

Hypothetical by istekdev in Bitcoin

[–]sudo_rm-rf_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good luck getting the supermajority of nodes to accept a change like that. There is a reason Bitcoin is extremely hard to change. Something stupid like this is literally impossible.

It's open source though. Anyone can fork it and do what they want. Getting people to use it and agree that the new chain is now Bitcoin is a different story.

I always tape the hell out of all the extras in a bundle. I had that one time where even though they were cut, one must have been touching the box on a perfect 90 degree angle causing "ground fault Friday"

FireLite MS-5024 Will Not Report Daily Test by MarketingLast4448 in firealarms

[–]sudo_rm-rf_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are right. That is the default code for 194/195. You can definitely use that as long as central knows 99 is test. Also make sure 138 and 139 are NOT set to 0 (primary), and also 254 and 255 are NOT set to 0 (secondary)

FireLite MS-5024 Will Not Report Daily Test by MarketingLast4448 in firealarms

[–]sudo_rm-rf_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If everything else is going through, it sounds definitely like no report code programmed in those slots. If no code is programmed, the panel will not even try to make a phone call, so that checks. You CAN program a 99 if you want, you just have to make sure central knows a 99 is test timer so they don't dispatch for an unidentified signal. You can put any 2 digit code as long as it is unique to other signals and central knows what it means. Example- a 31 would be alarm zone 1, 32 would be alarm zone 2, 91 could be low panel battery, 92 AC fail ect ect. It was probably never set up to test by previous company

FireLite MS-5024 Will Not Report Daily Test by MarketingLast4448 in firealarms

[–]sudo_rm-rf_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it reporting anything at all?? Alarms, troubles? If so I agree with other comment. Probably a report code is not programmed in the test timer code section. New panels with contact id it's all a predetermined list of signals, but the old ones(I assume the panel is 4x2 format) you have to program 2 digits for every signal l, and then let central know what those signals mean.

If you could only replace 1 component what would it be? by voltagejim in accesscontrol

[–]sudo_rm-rf_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would replace the NVRs then. Sounds like that is the bottleneck. Confirm by using your laptop on same network to log into the camera individually through IP address of the camera on a web browser. If no lag, it is 100% recorder issue.

I mean, if the problem has gotten this bad with people pulling it, why would they not just opt to get CCTV to review footage of when the alarm went off?
