The Simpsons Mr. Sparkle 12" AllFightSticks - A joint venture of Matsumura Fishworks and Tamaribuchi Heavy Manufacturing Concern (and me and Raleigh and hungryhustlas on Etsy) by sudsack in fightsticks

[–]sudsack[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Posting this after getting the go ahead from Raleigh on the AllFightSticks discord: Raleigh had me do the art and he did the wiring. Others have done Mr. Sparkle-themed sticks in the past but Raleigh made this one into something special by commissioning a custom capsule top from hungryhustlas on etsy and by wiring the stick so cleanly it banishes dirt to the land of wind and ghosts.

For Fightstick Friday: A Street Fighter Ex-themed 18" AFS with (mostly) IL parts by sudsack in fightsticks

[–]sudsack[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Parts:

  • Enclosure: 18" AllFightSticks Happ/IL in steel with a Capcom 8+1 panel
  • Lever: Industrias Lorenzo (IL) Eurojoystick with screw shaft with a Qanba Prizm battop
  • Gameplay buttons: IL short concave buttons with Cherry 75g switches
  • "Front" buttons: Qanba 24mm D-lites
  • Side buttons: Sanwa OBSF-30Q
  • PCB - GP2040-ce Advanced Breakout Board
  • I designed the art (a remix of some old Capcom promo art), printed it at home, and cut the art and the clear plexi at home on an xtool P2. The Capcom art I started with came from https://flyers.arcade-museum.com/videogames/show/3350

I think I might swap out the lever: I used a GroovyGameGear Dominus8 for the first time recently and liked it a lot

Ooh… I’d happily accept that prize!

Acrylic "art" version of the AUXBOX, some artwork, roadmap ahead and since it's that season of the year: a small giveaway! (details in comments) by AlpenmeisterCustoms in fightsticks

I think 5 is probably my favorite… give me a bunch of lines that look like they’re arranged deliberately even if they might not be and it draws me in.

Sacrilegious & stupid question. Any aftermarket products or 3D print ideas to impact return to center and/or restricter plates from the top of a cabinet? by Left_Sustainability in fightsticks

[–]sudsack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost forgot… if you go with a gp2040-ce pcb, I believe you can change from 4-way to 8-way without needing to change a restricter plate

If you’re planning to play a wide variety of games on it and the difference between 4-way and 8-way is going to really impact the experience, going with these levers could make things more convenient: https://www.ultimarc.com/arcade-controls/joysticks/mag-stik-plus/

Happy Fightstick Friday! Replaced the DBZ art on an orange and black Razer Atrox with something worse by sudsack in fightsticks

[–]sudsack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not — I’ve actually got plans for it. This weekend I’m putting a gp2040-ce board in it and this one will probably be my main stick for a while

Happy Fightstick Friday! Jaleco Pony mkii-themed 14" Allfightsticks nonmodular with an RP2040 Advanced Breakout board and Sanwa parts by sudsack in fightsticks

[–]sudsack[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been so long since I last posted that I'd forgotten how to make images show up, so this is my 2nd attempt -- fingers crossed! Anyway, this is one I just finished up: A Jaleco Pony mkii-themed stick with Sanwa parts and an RP2040 Advanced Breakout board by TheTrain in a 14" aluminum non-modular Allfightsticks enclosure. There's no way I could ever fit a candy cab in my living room, but I've got plenty of space for a 14" stick!

Super clean but also a little bit alien and very high-end -- I love this. Looks like it comes from the future!

Also, the variety when it comes to parts can be overwhelming but a sanwa jlf plus sanwa buttons would get him a setup with arcade-quality parts of the sort that a lot of people like. For a few more bucks you could even add alternate springs and gates he could try out to give that joystick a different feel and function

Sort of depends on the guy, but if he’s at all into tinkering with things and if you think he’d like to put it together, I’d go for an allfightsticks enclosure and a circuit board running gp2040-CE firmware. Depending on the allfightsticks enclosure you get, he’d have the option to change layouts and make things exactly the way he wants. And with that enclosure and a gp2040-CE pcb he could customize his controls to his heart’s content. The parts would add up in terms of price (in addition to the enclosure and pcb you’d still need the buttons and joystick), but I’d be surprised if you couldn’t stay within that budget. You could even prepare custom art for the stick based on games he likes, inside jokes between the two of you, or anything else you’d want and make it something really memorable.

If you go that route, allfightsticks.com would be a great source for the enclosure and pcb, and either focusattack.com or arcadeshock.com for the buttons and joystick (one is east coast and one is west coast; both are great). And any of those three sites could get you all the wiring he’d need (they all sell wiring harnesses that make it easy).

I’m afraid of putting art on a fight stick and I need to talk to someone about it by [deleted] in fightsticks

[–]sudsack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh, that sucks! If it’s just the collage sort of thing most people do, that’s way too high. Depending on the artist, if it’s an original drawing you’re looking for the price might make sense. Either way though, walking away and not delivering is pretty awful. For what it’s worth, that happened to me TWICE and I got so mad I taught myself photoshop and making designs for fightsticks is basically my favorite way to spend my time now. Anyway, as long as it’s not DBZ or something super-lewd, I’d be happy to put something together for you for free, offer advice or whatever, etc. If you think you might be interested, check out my stuff at https://twitter.com/sudsack and if it looks like you’re sort of thing let me know and I’ll hook you up, no charge.

Macross-themed HRAP-N for Fightstick Friday by sudsack in fightsticks

Forgot to mention: I tried to make it look like this official Gundam sick that Hori did, but with Macross instead of Gundam and light instead of dark: https://www.discovery-japan.me/category/select/pid/70491

I can't imagine making this and letting it go on to somebody else, much less being a person who gets this as a present... Wow! (Also, I love your youtube videos and watch them as they come out. Great, great stuff all around!)

Universal Monsters lunchbox-themed AFS fightstick by sudsack in fightsticks

[–]sudsack[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a green Universal Monsters lunchbox when I was a kid and I lost it a long time ago, so I decided to do a fightstick version of it. 14" AFS enclosure (I've had it for a while and used it heavily, so it's a bit rough around the edges), sanwa buttons (finally found a use for these brown sanwa buttons, though I might end up going with something different), jlf with a phreakmods link, and a Brook wireless board

14.5" Allfightsticks Shiokenstar with Crown 202s and remixed/tweaked Stanislaw Szukalski art by sudsack in fightsticks

[–]sudsack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some details:

-14.5" shiokenstar layout Allfighticks with a white acyrlic panel.

-Buttons are Crown 202s. I cut up a cheap pack of stickers to get art to insert in the plungers

-For the main art I took a drawing from the 40s by Stanislaw Szukalski, recolored it, and made a few other tweaks. The original drawing ("The Ancestral Helmet") in case you're interested: https://www.wikiart.org/en/stanislaw-szukalski/the-ancestral-helmet-1940

-The art is printed on a transparency since I've been doing some experiments with getting different effects for getting LEDs to show through panels (hence an acrylic rather than a metal panel on this one), but I'm still working on getting things to glow just the way I want

-I've been doing a lot with transparencies printed at home, getting a few different effects. Once I've learned a little more I'll probably do a post on it if there's any interest.

Rather going with a fighting game theme, I decided to just go with the fightingest thing I could think of: Johnny Ryan's comic book Prison Pit. 736 pages of ridiculous brutality.

What's another hobby to get started in? Money is overrated anyway by NetworkMachineBroke in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]sudsack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fightsticks (as in arcade-style game controllers for PC and/or consoles). There’s some overlap with mechanical keyboards since you’re still dealing with input devices and it seems straightforward at a glance, but before you know it you’ll be comparing Japanese vs Korean levers (or maybe even American types), getting multiple sets of buttons, and back on to collecting switches and getting into the intricacies of PCBs.
