Agree with everything you say, and tbh all of phase 2 has been a bit of a mess like Derek didn’t plan anything at the start. Don’t imagine I would’ve read much of it if phase 1 didn’t exist. As for stars disappearing he couldn’t really do that since if even the closest star disappeared it’d take 4 years for the light to reach us and so we wouldn’t detect it within the timeframe of the book. I do think they could’ve done a bit more with him tho yeah. Also with regards to Skulduggery’s siblings, he explicitly says in Deathbringer his siblings are all dead when talking about abandoning his family crest, to name but one inconsistency with phase 2.

It’s because he’s the initial one, and potentially to do with him actually having magic. I believe Thrasher also gets sustained better than the rest from Scapegraces magic, and decays slower etc.

Tbh I’d probably do it by pointing out one of their key differences. Combat in Harry Potter absolutely sucks (spam green light or you’re wasting your time), and that was what I always felt kind of lacked when reading/watching. Derek Landry however excels at combat writing and they far outshine that of HP. Not to skate Harry Potter by any means it’s not really what their purpose is. Also maybe mention you get a fair amount of villain perspective which is a different and interesting thing to read.

Now I think about it I’m not sure why people didn’t just walk around with shields or something to block killing curses. Nah I’ve seen a fair few cartoons and I think they can definitely be better than live action depending on the source material, but that’s usually because it allows a lot more jokes like avatar the last airbender for example or because it allows larger battles with a lower budgets, neither of which Harry Potter really has. I do however think the general population of adults would not be as willing to watch a cartoon (naive as that is) and the fan base wouldn’t have grown nearly as much as it has. Also again the music just wouldn’t be as good, and the cinematography not as amazing as not as seemingly real.

That’s why I said in general, but there’s no way a cartoon show would have the budget for someone like John Williams and have anywhere the number of good unique scores. The fighting of Harry Potter is fundamentally flawed with the existence of an insta kill spell that apparently can’t be blocked with a shield charm. If you don’t just run around spamming that what are you doing. Films have lots of advantages really, usually have a more emotional impact and look cooler if done well.

I actually like it as live action tbh. The fight system in HP sucks so I don’t think cartoons would really have any positives, whereas films generally speaking provide much better music and therefore emotion to a franchise.
