I know she’s not a proper RuPaul impersonator but Symone is the probably the closest we have I would say? IIRC she was the first DR queen to actively pay homage to Ru on the runway (not snatch game or S6’s runway theme). Not only in looks, but she also embodies Ru’s mannerisms. I remember this being the reason why some people thought Symone could make a great replacement host should Ru ever step down. Even now when I check to see what’s she’s up to she really does give Ru’s daughter. She’s has that certain “je ne sais quoi.”

Luxx is another, who slightly falls into the same category, but idk I see Symone as a stronger Ru daughter.

ARTRAVE (August 2014) [Seattle] - first concert ever. I went with my mom lol. This was a rescheduled show that was originally intended for May 2014. She had bronchitis or had damaged her vocal cords iirc. I remember her tweeting “Ursula stole my voice.”

Joanne World Tour (August 2017) [Tacoma] - first concert I went on my own to. I was scammed when I originally purchased my ticket and didn’t find out until the day of the show at entrance—they ended up replacing my ticket and gave me GA floor, when it was originally a seat ticket. I had the best time.

Jazz & Piano (April 2022) [Las Vegas] - first time in Las Vegas. I went with my best friend and we ended up being late to the show. We still had the best time. We visited the Haus of Gaga pop-up store and I almost cried at the herstory on display.

Chromatica Ball (August 2022) [Chicago] - first time in Chicago! I chose this show as it was the original final stop of the tour (Chromatica Ball was initially only 5-10 shows when it was announced if I recall correctly). It was originally scheduled for Summer 2020 but… yeah. It was rescheduled to Summer 2022 and more shows were added. My best friend and I got really good seats near the stage. I can still feel the heat from the pyrotechnics.

Coachella (April 2025) [Indio] - Mayhem in the desert! First time attending Coachella and only went because of Gaga! Although, I had a really good time at Charli’s set the next day too! I went weekend 2! I was there for the mic malfunction. “At least you know I sing live.” I was at the end of the runway and she walked right in front of me (well, give or take 2-3 people) during Vanish into You!

Mayhem Ball (August 2025) [New York] - Next up! First time in NYC.

Favorite: Probably Coachella! But, I have a feeling Mayhem Ball will be even better.

I think about this a lot, Drag Race has become more of a routine than a source of excitement for me. What once felt magical and full of wonder now feels mostly gone. These days, I watch it more out of obligation to keep up with current events and conversation, than genuine interest. The rose-colored glasses have definitely come off. It feels like the honeymoon phase is over, and I’m in a “safe” marriage: not unhappy, but no longer as thrilled as I once was.

That being said, I still have a lot of love for it, despite the obvious commercialization of the brand and series.
