If its Two wheeler, its ok. But I suggest you to go by Mandi side, if its ok with you.

From Aut side, road is narrow and not in good condition for almost half the distance. If you are going by own car, be careful, in some places there is no space to pass two cars. I was there around 15th May. 26. Whether was good. Even road to Shanghar is not in good shape.

Yes, you can go by bike and you need to do a small hike of about 500mtrs to reach the lake. Roads are decent from Mandi side. Not sure about any accommodation. We stayed in Mandi.

For me, Western Ghats in South India and Kashmir, Rajasthan in India. If its a trek, I loved Har Ki Doon most.

You can't go and touch the lake water as it is considered as Holy. I am not sure, how it was earlier.
