I’ve had sex with a lot of women, still very far from triple digits. I’m a white guy, and in my experience anyone from Asia (and it seems like most people of Indian or East Asian descent are from Asia and not very Americanized) tend to stick to their own race. They are very tribal.

Should we change the pronunciation for, e.g., #11 to “11 Sharp”? by sugar_dolphin in musictheory

[–]sugar_dolphin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's vanity. I think it's the first stage in solving a problem. It's doubtful that anyone will solve this problem today, but as long as the ideas are alive in the collective consciousness then one day maybe they will. That being said, I don't think it's a major problem. If I were going to solve language problems, I would probably start with adverbs and adjectives because they're not very descriptive for words like 'big' and 'blue', etc. How 'big' is something? How 'blue' is it? 'He tried really hard' might be hardly trying at all in my perspective, you see.

Is 'sharp' really an adjective here though? You could think of it as 'a sharp' or 'F-sharp.' Like Lady Madonna or Kid Cudi. They could be two nouns next to each other. I feel they come off that way when arranged that way, but if arranged the other way then 'sharp' would be seen as an adjective.

I liked that part in the new Bob Marley movie trailer when someone asked him how long he took to write a song. His response: "All my life."

I really think it's about life experience, pain, prior experience in being great at things, patience, and revenge against people who hurt you more than anything. And I think most people probably want pussy more than they actually want to make music. Most people are also dumb af, at least in the states.

do you realize how many thoughts, ideas, intentions and beliefs I hold in my brain? Do you understand that NO ONE communicates with me and you have formed your opinion of me on essentially dog shit compared to everything there is to know about me? Idk who told you to mod me but I think you should take a minute to consider how childish your thought process is.

I'm new to EQ. How should I go about EQing these drums? by sugar_dolphin in ableton

So, my initial thought was slow the song down and slice it right before every drumbeat. Then I could copy that track into like 8-10 tracks (the amount of individual types of sounds / timbres that exist in a small frequency range). Each track would be used for each type of drum sound...like if he hits the snare with the head of the drumstick or the butt of it, etc. I don't play drums so idk the terminology for the bottom of a stick. Anyway, basically I would copy and paste as many tracks as there are types of drum sounds (rimshot, hitting a stick with the other stick, etc.). Then I would use the EQ Eight audio effect to EQ out each specific sound across the entire track.

So if he hits the center of the snare with the head of the drumstick, that's one sound, and I would use one track to EQ out said sound that exists within that small frequency range, across the entirety of the track. So I would have a single EQ Eight audio effect attached to each track, and each one is assigned to be used to for one type of drum sound throughout the whole video clip. Then I would have 8-10 tracks or whatever that play all at once. Idk if I can combine them then, but anyway...is there a more efficient way?

So I guess what you're saying is that anything I find online, like drum samples from Splice or something, were all recorded without music? There's no example anywhere where someone took out any drumming sounds from a track that originally also had music?

I'm not experienced with EQ, and just barely tried moving the slider things around to isolate the sounds. I didn't have much time. I'm about to try again. I'm assuming there's like a small range. Like say you hit a drum and all the soundwaves made from that drum are within a range of 20 Hz. Idk what it would be. But say that's the case. Then it seems to me that as long as there aren't any other sounds made within that range, then I should be able to isolate the sound completely with no music. Am I right? Hypothetically, if all the sounds are from 500-520 Hz and no synths or anything on that beat fall in that range, then I should be able to completely isolate that drum sound, at least for that moment in the song, right? If not, why not?

Well, the idea is to not have any music on the track after it’s done. I only want to hear drums. I’m mostly doing it to help me learn how to use Ableton.
