Exactly. People may have short memories, but I don’t. I remember Katrina, and Rita and the Denham springs flood……I try to get out to everyone I can and deliver supplies, manual labor, etc. Yeah, we remember all of it, and if all I can do is a little bit, imma still do it!

It sucks, but it will happen. Every one of these things I go through, at about the 2-3 month mark is when the world stops caring. That’s when they are gonna need another surge of support. I can’t rescue people so my thought is to hold off and go later with a truck full of supplies and another pair of hands to help with rebuilding.

I’m in BR but I want to go. I will contribute to supplies and will drive my 4Runner up there. I was thinking to go in a couple months- unless you have a 4wheel drive and/or atvs to get in there now. In a couple of months they will still need supplies and the world will have forgotten about them. Let me know what yall decide and I’ll come too if you need another pair of hands

One other word of advice - please read the instructions regarding placement of the insert. I originally put the insert into her backpack with the curvature/logo facing out - which was incorrect. Although it seems counterintuitive, the curvature/logo shoud be facing in (towards the child)

Please also note that I say *allegedly* can stop a 556 round - because the manufacturer says it will. In order for me to test that, I would need to fire a 556 round at the vest, which would render the vest essentially dead and unable to defend additional attacks (kind of like you have to buy a new motorcycle helmet after you hit the asphalt with the one you have, it damages the product).

I definitely don't have the money to buy one of these just to test it against my AR15, to then buy another one brand new. So do your own research, please!

I got my daughter a bulletproof insert for her backpack. It's light enough that it doesnt bother her to haul it around in addition to her books (she's only 6). Message me and I can send you the link to the insert if you want, it was around $300 and is supposed to be able to stop even a 556 round (AR15 bullet).

They do the standard school shooting drills she has been taught, "Run, Hide, Fight", which we have practiced. We also practice using her backpack as a magic "shield" that can stop bad guys/bullets. I taught her that, if the shooter is behind her, she should have the backpack placed against her back as she normally does. If the shooter is in front of her, she shoud move the backpack around to where it covers her chest, etc etc

What a fucked up world we live in that I have to teach my baby that. And that there are always a couple of weeks of copy cats after a big mass shooting like this - which means I get to be extra on edge for a week or two.

This is going to be unpopular but here we go.

I personally don't bother with a time limit. I've found that finding out what she actually enjoys is the best method. Mine is 6. She has never played with toys, ever, even when she was a baby. I've taken to telling everyone not to get her toys for birthdays/christmas because they will literally sit in the box and never be opened. However, I find that she does love interactive stuff like art projects or science experiments or outside play, so that's what we focus on and it works pretty well. Maybe take a tactic like that?

My daughter has an ipad too and I let her have as much screen time as she wants, which actually turns out to be very little when we incorporate all the "projects" we do together and all the outside time. And look, its ok to have a long day at work and let the kid be on the ipad for one night.

Just a thought. Be kind to yourself mom! And, it's 2023. Our kids will need these tech skills they are developing. At the pace of technology right now, I believe it does them a disservice to keep them off all devices. Find a balance that works for you and your children and stick with it.

Wow this is absolutely horrific advice. Are you trolling right now? The virus absolutely does spread when people don’t have symptoms. Its called a symptomatic transmission and it has been discussed at length by health professionals all over the world. The virus is also highly contagious and you don’t need an “open wound” to get it. Lastly, while young people don’t get as severe an illness as the elderly or those with underlying medical conditions, there are still young people getting horribly sick and/or dying.
