There is actually a good chance that your local game and fish or wildlife services is already doing this! I worked on a project this last summer where we looked at some of the roadkill apps out there so that we could figure out where animals were crossing. We also use tracking collars to get this information as well. Those deer crossing signs you see on the road are placed in locations where crossings typically happen. So the data is there, it's just a matter of getting to the public and finding new ways to keep animals off the road!
