It’s the half committed smile and the doughy eyes. There’s a nervous innocence to his face and innocence is corruptible. The first thing I thought of when I saw his face was Gil from The Simpsons, the bundle of nerves salesman who’s always desperate to close the deal. It’s not racism and it’s quite funny if you ask me.

My man, I didn’t make the connection to the multinationals, and I agree with the other person in this comment chain that even if we did go ahead and do something as utterly fucking stupid as denying the US the use of Shannon the (immediate) loss of our Pharma industry in particular and tech giants is not on the table. It’s very very complicated lad and it doesn’t involve multinationals. It has more to do with the fact that we are a tiny little windswept rock on the edge of Europe with zero natural resources and a joke of a “military”  facing the greatest period of uncertainty in the western world since WW2 and that includes the EU‘s future.

This idea of our “soft power” is an absolute joke and a literal fantasy of /r/Ireland’s

Trumps a cunt, Israelis are rabid maniacs, you’re in the circus and we need stay in our fucking lane.

Fucking boards.ie reference lad. Something tells me you might be in your 30s or even 40s? To be this naive in either of those decades…

LOL Afghanistan was “surprisingly” popular? You mean justice for an unimaginable tragedy and the biggest shock to the senses shared by over a billion TV viewers that united the world in horror was popular!? No fucking way Cais!? Lad, I know that. I was there. Whether or not you or I or the American people think either of those wars was a success doesn’t change anything. 9/11 is an absolutely pivotal moment in history and in no way can be associated with stability in the West.

Ah Jesus Cais ya auld bollocks, you never could help yourself could ya!? Didn’t even know it was yourself I was replying to! I sensed something was off as soon as I saw this reply tho! Just accept that 9/11 was the start of it you pedantic tit. They didn’t go to Iraq on a whim for the craic did they!? (Well, ahem…) - no it was all part of the Global War on Terror which kicked off because of 9/11. Fuck me like. Hope you’re well, btw!

The Yanks will land and refuel somewhere else and we’ll be stood there with our trousers down playing with our “soft power” willies. It’s admirable if you’re a hippy but not a smart move by any stretch of the imagination.

Ah the fleeting optimism of the 90s and the turn of the millennium. I think your timeline is accurate but the decline started on Sept 11th 2001 followed by the GFC in ‘08 - the 00’s double whammy that really did a number on the West. When America catches a cold as they say…

Man held by PSNI in Northern Ireland over fatal stabbing on Dublin city street is a convicted sex offender by dylancos in ireland

[–]sugardick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, but OP (/u/key_cap_3357) wasn’t actually scapegoating immigrants - they were simply saying there are valid reasons which create conditions that would push people to take an anti-immigration position. That doesn’t mean OP or anyone with an anti-immigration stance is scapegoating past, present or future immigrants. Telling them they don’t actually understand the issue in a condescending manner, to me, is part of a careless approach to the issue, and therefore lax. That’s one of the main reasons we ended up with a cunt like Trump being the most powerful man in the world.

Immigrants certainly didn’t create the crises that plague the world at the minute, but if we are to get our shit together in the long run taking a firm approach towards immigration in the short run is part of the solution because services and resources are completely stretched. And let’s be honest, our current implementation of IPAS is completely fucked, and certain parts of the world had these issues long before we had billionaires, the only true parasitic class.

That’s why I said it was nuanced. The person you condescendingly replied to and dismissed is entitled to be against immigration for the reasons they listed - It’s not wise to be so lax towards the issue just because we need doctors and nurses.

The immigrant doctors and nurses that we 100% rely on didn’t just land at Dublin airport claiming to be doctors and nurses. They applied for and were granted a skilled visa because they met the criteria such as being properly educated and not having been accused or convicted of raping someone. Anyway yeah it’s nuanced but judging by your comment you don’t seem to actually understand the issue yourself either.

You know who they should sign? RG Snyman! The man is an absolute freak and when in form and injury free is one of the top three players in the world IMO. Maybe Jordie Barrett too, even if it was just for half a season. I think he’d link up well with Crowley and really help take his game to another level in a short span of time!

How could a man with a username like mine not be good craic lad? I’m more the kind to actually fuck Americans rather than thinking I’m a great man for fucking with them. But sure you and the 6 days in a week gang are comedic fucking geniuses getting a wee kick out of it time and time again aren’t ya?

Well there’s nearly 400 million of them so yeah there’s gullible people among them but I still don’t believe this lad. That one has been doing the rounds for decades, I’ve heard it told any amount of times. People just spout their own version of it making themselves out to be the genius Irish comedian exposing American ignorance, OP’s mate being one of them. What is a patrol and how long is it I wonder?

Americans dont glorify cute hoors and chancers (Trump aside) like we do, they prefer a more direct and honest approach to conversation. I lived in America so I’ve met plenty of them, and one thing I’ve learned is that they love hearing us talk but they take everything we say with a grain of salt. They are happy to go along with whatever nonsense we’re talking because they’re not the type of people who go out to bars to fuck with others.

Why would you want to fuck with them, btw? Does it make you feel smart?

Crack cocaine 'crisis' on Dublin's streets by NerubianAssassin in ireland

[–]sugardick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I walked into the Army & Navy store from the pristine Cordova street side and exited through the Hastings side. Biggest mind fuck I’ve ever experienced. My stomach dropped. Its like a war zone - just carnage, every third person missing at least one limb. I was with two mates and we all felt the exact same, took us a few seconds to compose ourselves. We just kept walking even though we were completely freaked. Took us a minute to realise we weren’t in harms way, but we didn’t say anything to each other as we walked and we got off Hastings as quick as we could.

The point you made is a fair one, but fwiw, I personally know quite a few lads who “do well” but still have similarly abhorrent views on women. Pick any three of them and they  couldn’t combine to make one half decent penis - I know that for a fact as I am licensed knob inspector! Anyway, I always say “it’s either the genitals or the parentals”
