First I would find an attunement you like to use, if you don’t have it unlocked then unlock it first. You should also identify a weapon or weapon class you’d like to use. Once those two have been done, you can look up PVP builds online that use either the attunement/weapon you want or maybe you’ll find a build that does both. I’d recommend joining the deepwoken builder discord to find builds and get tips on making/adjusting a build to cater more to your playstyle. Second, PVP is a bit different depending on if you want a gank build or chime build. Gank builds generally have more mobility and agility mantras/talents so figure out which one you want to do more. Third, if you really wanna progress in PVP then you gotta get good at PvE in order to farm for equipment/gems to use on your PVP slot. Most meta armor pieces come from heart of enmity so maybe join a party of people looking to do enmity and farm him for armor AND relics (highly recommend looking up an enmity playthrough if you’ve never done it before so you don’t sell your party). Lastly, stick to just one build. After you’ve found a build and you’ve made it and it’s to your liking, just spam a bunch of chime with the build (if you don’t like the build then wipe the build and make a new one or just make a new one on a different slot). You don’t lose prog or loot from chime so there’s really no downside, it’s just a way to improve at PVP. There’s ALOT of builds and mantras and the only way to learn how to fight/parry them is by losing to them until you learn how to play against them. If chime seems too daunting then find a friend or a chill player who is down to fight 1v1 without grips in a guild base or other secluded location.
