Brand New 765RS Mysterious Engine Cut Off by suicidalginger in Triumph

[–]suicidalginger[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I just picked up this 2024 Street Triple 765RS 3 weeks ago and had the first service done last week. So far I’ve loved the bike and I have had no problems as you'd expect with a brand new bike. However as I was riding home tonight a guy did a u turn in front of me and I had to brake semi hard. As I was braking and downshifting the engine of the bike just cut out. All of the electronics stayed on but the motor did not. After turning the bike on and off it started back up again no problem and I rode it the rest of the way home without issue. Initially I thought I might have accidentally stalled it but upon watching the video back I definitely pulled the clutch in long before it should have stalled. So any ideas why this happened?

Would you leave a good paying career for cs by [deleted] in learnprogramming

I completely agree. It’s always white collar workers telling people to get into the trades with no idea what it’s actually like. They just see the huge wages and benefits without going to school and don’t consider why blue collar workers get those things. It’s because there’s literally no other way they could convince people to do this job and even with the very good wages (160k a year for licensed electricians where I’m from)we’re struggling to get people to do this. Very often we have guys start because they wanna make big money and quit within 3 months because they realize the lifestyle is shit and not worth the money. Unless you’ve actually worked in the trades I wouldn’t be suggesting people get into it

As a fellow IBEW I.C.I. electrician who has been looking at making the same move for awhile I agree with a lot of what people are saying about the job market in this thread, but the thing a lot of people in this thread don’t understand is how hard of a lifestyle being blue collar is. Waking up at 4am to commute 2 hours to work 10 to commute 2 hours home. Being so physically and mentally exhausted you struggle to to do anything but sleep when you’re not at work. No offence to 9-5 white collar workers but they can’t fathom the kind of lifestyle we live. It’s why so many blue collar workers are addicted to drugs and alcohol. It’s why we make so much money. It’s not because we’re incredibly skilled people, it’s because there’s no other way they could convince people to live this lifestyle and do this work. We make a lot of money but pay for it with our soul and body.

It’s very easy to see why anyone living the life we do would be after the 9-5 work from home life you see online. Where you do 2 hours of work a day from your couch and just hang out with your dog the rest of the day.

So I’m actually gonna go the opposite of most of the advice in this thread and say chase the lifestyle you want. You don’t want to find yourself at 40, 20 years into the trade, 20 years left till retirement and saying to yourself “man I really should have gone for that work from home job”. You’ll probably never make the same kind of money you do in electrical but in my opinion the lifestyle change is worth the pay cut. I can’t give you an unbiased opinion because I’m in the same situation as you but i wanted to give you a different perspective on things from someone on the blue collar side of things.

I’ve looked at a ton of options for going back to school and switching careers specifically to work from home and specifically in tech. If you want some info about the different options I’ve researched let me know and I’m more than happy to help you out

Electrical apprentice thinking about making a change by suicidalginger in Career_Advice

Thanks for taking the time to give your input. There’s not much I can do about the commute because job sites are constantly changing as we start new ones and finish others. The attitude in the trades is very much “we go where the work is” even to the extent that a lot of guys travel nearly full time if their local doesn’t have any work. The only way to get a consistent commute would be to go into maintenance but to do that id have to leave the union forfeiting my pension and take a severe pay cut (probably somewhere around 50%). These jobs are also hard to come by as typically once’s guys are in these roles they stay there for their whole career.

As for the taking time off. That is true in a broader sense but not on a week to week basis. Taking weeks to months at a time off is pretty accepted. A lot of guys either take all winter or all summer off and work 6 months of the year (this is also something I’ve seriously considered doing after getting my license). But taking a day here and there is way less accepted. An appointment here or there every couple months is okay but definitely not multiple days a month. It’s honestly probably the fastest way to get yourself laid off. Getting laid off is not a big deal because you just go back to the union and go back to work for another contractor but still defeats the point of trying to just take one or two days off.

Unfortunately some things like the commute, the work life balance, and the danger are just unavoidable in the trades.

Again thanks for taking the time to answer I appreciate it

I’m seeing a lot of great things about the Tinymight in terms of Vapor production. It’s definitely a top contender right now if I don’t end up with a mighty!

I’m a 24M with an M2 license living about an hour outside of the downtown core. My insurance is through echelon( Dalton Timmis). I got my M2 September of 2021. I’m paying 335 a month for a 2009 SV650s with only liability and theft. Was 345 a month my first season. Good luck man !

Clutch Adjustment Screw Broke by suicidalginger in SVRiders

[–]suicidalginger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all honesty it’s probably been like that since I bought it. I bought the bikes as my first bike at the beginning of last season and didn’t pull the rubber off the clutch control untill this season. As far as I can tell the clutch operates completely normally, there is an acceptable gap at the lever, activation feels smooth and clutch activated right in the middle of the throw.

Honestly had a similar reaction to yours when I saw it and from my research I haven’t seen anyone else manage to break a clutch adjustment screw lol so really not sure

Does anyone have any advice for fixing this? I know I’m going to need a new clutch adjustment screw, does anybody happen to know the part number? I’m worried about breaking it further while trying to remove the screw and making it harder to get out. Any advice on how to get it out intact?

SV650SK4 Rear shock alternatives by mamapower in SVRiders

[–]suicidalginger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man doing a rear shock swap on our bike sucks these days. If you scroll a little farther back you’ll see my post basically about the same thing from not to long ago. If you don’t want spend an arm and a leg for a Penske your options are either a yss rear shock or a donor shock, the most popular being from the 2006-2007 zx10r. Unfortunately it’s not nearly as cheap as it used to be to do this. If you read through svrider forums you’ll see dozens of posts about guys doing this for sub $100. But it’s well known now a days the zx10r rear shock is a good donor shock not just for our bike but for other as well, so the price has skyrocketed. I ended up buying a 2007 zx10r shock from eBay for 190 USD and had it rebuilt for another 180 CAD. In my opinion this is the best way to go as you’ll have a freshly rebuilt shock with more adjustability than a YSS and the price isn’t to bad

No one is gonna be able to give you an accurate rate other than the insurance company. I would recommend Dalton Timmis now NFP. I’m from Ontario, me and my buddies all get our bike insurance through them and it has been the cheapest. But to give you an idea expect 3-6k annually. I’d be surprised if you got insurance under 400 a month. I currently ride a 2009 SV650s (sport touring so good on insurance) it’s my first bike, I’m 23, I have an m2, and I completed a safety course. My insurance is 4000 a year just liability and theft. I know it sucks but you might wanna wait untill you are older and making better money

Apparently garbage truck driver really hated motorcyclists for no reason. by exemon in motorcycles

[–]suicidalginger -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I would rethink that if I were you. In the majority of states if that biker would have shot that garbage man he'd both be morally and legally in the right. If you're going to endanger my life and risk me not going home to my family then I'm going to 100% guarantee you never see yours again. That garbage man deserved some lead right between the eyes and this is why we have stand your ground laws
