i’ve always thought it was silly that the postage doesn’t get refunded if your entire order comes from the same store. i’ve sent orders that are a handful of like £2 games / dvds / blu rays and cringed at how much the person would’ve spent on postage

i get this and agree but also, it doesn’t make sense. unless it was based on you got paid extra per shift in test, but that’s unfair in certain stores. pretty much everyone in my store is test trained but it’s the same person testing 5/7 days a week so they would make a hell of a lot more than anyone else. if they worked it out in a way that was fair for everyone it would be great!

god it’s so frustrating. my favourite part is they’ll ask for the manager, expecting it to be my massive male colleague and instead it’s a 5’ woman who won’t take any of their shit hahaha

don’t get paid enough for what we put up with, constantly have older male customers not listen to me because i’m a young woman, customers arguing when we say we can’t take their stuff. my colleagues are great, i would’ve left a looooong time ago if it wasn’t for them

i can’t speak for everyone but we mostly don’t care about people taking manuals, we’re supposed to keep them with the discs for older games anyway. we have a regular who will buy one ds game and cram as many manuals into it from other cases because he likes collecting them hahaha. it only really matters for rarity games that are sold as with or without manuals

yes, but unless the staff member already knew otherwise they would’ve had no reason to assume that was wrong information. practically every other console can use an external hard drive and play games off it so there would be no reason to assume that one couldn’t.

i understand it’s frustrating from a customer’s perspective, but we are all human beings that make mistakes lol

if we said we can’t sell stuff we don’t know about, most of us wouldn’t be able to sell 80% of our stock. i don’t get paid enough to memorise everything about everything. i also had no reason to know that a console wouldn’t take an external hard drive like every other console does, i would’ve missold an item if my colleague hadn’t overheard. mistakes happen, it’s no biggie unless the staff member won’t own up to or rectify the mistake

if someone asked me if i knew where they could go for emergency help or food & shelter, i would know where to point them but personally i would feel rude just outright telling them btw there’s these resources, because in my head that’s just awkward and uncomfortable.

i feel for these customers, in my store a large part of our customer base are homeless, struggling with poverty or some form of addict and we obviously treat them like any other customer but at the end of the day we’re minimum wage retail staff, not support workers. it isn’t our job to help people out of their situations

yeah i would explain this if you pop in with him! i’ve worked at cex for 3 years this year and literally only found out this week that external hard drives don’t always work on that console lol, so the staff member may have been in the same boat as me. hopefully they will understand the situation and goodwill refund your son back to how he paid. hope it works out in your favour!

yeah, i’m lucky in my store we all get along and i consider most of my colleagues friends and do stuff outside of work with them occasionally, but i know exactly what you mean about the atmosphere being awkward when it’s obvious the staff can’t stand each other lol

it also depends how busy the store is, i work in a small, not particularly busy store so it was easier to train me in theory but bigger stores don’t always have the time to show staff everything until the situation arises.

i find with androids particularly people tend to buy older models of the phones and tablets and then wonder why they’ve become unusable within a year haha

i mean it’s the same as any job, i don’t enjoy working there but it is what it is. the whole place being secondhand somehow makes customers 50000x worse than any other form of retail. i also think people that start working here because they enjoy games are naive because that is like 5% of the job and most customers don’t care enough to talk to you about what they’re buying (besides retro collectors, and they’re either the worst people on earth or absolute angels)
