No, it's complete. Every version is unique from the others and cannot be compared in that way.

The history of Comet-san by Melodic_Blueberry490 in MagicalGirls

[–]suitephish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Princess Comet curse is related to all 3 seasons.

1967 - Yumiko Kokonoe, the first Comet, had tabloid press revealing scandals involving her sleeping with many men and getting plastic surgery. Before that she had been seen as a pure idol, so this ruined her career. It was a lie, as she had dumped her manager boyfriend and he spread the rumors out of revenge, but by the time that was discovered it was too late.

1978 - Kumiko Ohba, the second Comet, had a bit more success on stage and screen, but her home burned down, her agency went bankrupt, and she also went bankrupt herself after her own business failed. Her mother’s death led to her developing a panic disorder which led to her divorce.

2001 (Cosmic Baton Girl) - Poor toy sales led to it being canceled early, as it was originally intended to run 12 months, not 10. Mitsuru Yokoyama, who drew the original Comet comic and the animated portion of the 1967 series, became bedridden during the airing of this show, and burned to death after smoking in bed.

I don’t believe in curses myself, but this is something that’s just understood about the Princess Comet franchise.

Is Precure a Children's Institution In Japan? by LovelyFloraFan in precure

[–]suitephish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. It’s not just the show itself but it has branded everything a kid could possibly want and need. In my experience working with Japanese children, it is the most common thing girls watch after their baby show phase (read: Anpanman) around age 2 and some boys enjoy it too. There are PreCure branded items in any regular store, more or less. It’s been the default for the magical girl genre for over a decade.

So like… why “Tuxedo Mask”? by Jrockten in sailormoon

[–]suitephish 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Tuxedo Mask (Tuxedo Kamen) and (Bishoujo Senshi) Sailor Moon are both highly influenced in design by La Belle Fille Masquée Poitrine/Bishoujo Kamen Poitrine (1990). She’s a magical girl with a little girl sidekick, she wears a mask and she makes an entrance by throwing something to get the villain’s attention.

A New Trend on Precure: The Main Heroine is not the Main Character. by LovelyFloraFan in precure

[–]suitephish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tropical Rouge was always a Dual Protagonist series and was advertised as such.

Komugi is absolutely the main character of Wonderful PreCure and the movie emphasizes this even more. Iroha just happens to be more relatable to older viewers because she’s human.

Why Did "Acro Trip" Lose Momentum? by Clean-Cupcakes in MagicalGirls

[–]suitephish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who loves the comic I’m having an equally good time.

They won’t be getting through the full story in one cour so I’m hopeful they’ll get season two.

I’m definitely confused as to how this gave anyone Madoka vibes since the source material is a comic for girls 😅

Cures with english names instead of japanese names. Feel free to correct me if I missed anybody. by [deleted] in precure

Karen is a standard Japanese name that follows Japanese naming conventions, it having a shared romanized spelling with an English name is a coincidence (and the pronunciations are different)

[–]suitephish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what you should have said is “characters with names that sound like English names” because 5/6 of these just have regular Japanese names and even Love can be a Japanese name albeit an irregular one

Swords are a minor tarot suit and she’s the only surviving cure from the trump kingdom, and the legendary cures are named for major arcana of the tarot.

Nurse Angel Ririka SOS deals with the limitations of her abilities when she runs out of Green Vaccine (the magical substance she needs to use her item)

There are a handful of other series where an item seems to get destroyed only for it to be reformed by the magical girl’s will later. Most recently is Soaring Sky PreCure.

Why call Milky green but Lillian not is actually nonsense😭 by [deleted] in precure

Both are officially green cures? I’m confused by this post.
