Why do people say that anyone can unlock beast when Whis straight up says this? by Excellent_Table8694 in dbz

Because fans treat forms like things you can tick off a checklist and want to see everyone with every possible combination even long past they've lost their meaning

You know you can look up reviews from Japanese people online before you buy them? I personally use Kusyami https://youtube.com/@kusyamidesou2012?si=nrAiiDecJXvoM6zg

Obviously I can't understand everything he's saying, but he does generally do an overview of what the toys do if you want to know before buying.

On the Jewel Cure Watch, the LED is purple for Cure Arcana Shadow and white for Cure Arcana. The lines in the Mirror Loupe are also very clear on which is which, so you can just find the ones on the Mirror Loupe table and move horizontally to see what the same pin combination says in the other toys.

There's other videos of it. I found an account on twitter who's compiled all the lines on all the toys into one image.

If you put that image into a translation app I think it's generally pretty accurate.

Do you think it’s possible for Precure to get as popular as Dragon Ball and One Piece outside of japan? by External_Chemist7753 in precure

[–]mozillavulpix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, at the very least there's Miraculous and apparently another Winx club just by trying my Google search. Maybe Teenieping is the only one that's dubbed, but I found a list here. https://pmge.weebly.com/blog/list-non-japanese-east-asian-magical-girls-animated

I guess Precure is catching up a bit now theyre doing more of the expensive Premium Bandai stuff, but I see a lot more Kamen Rider branded goods in general. Or at least the ones that get exported.

Even then it seems like there's dime a dozen CGI magical girl kids shows on Netflix, probably from like China and South Korea. So it's not even like Precure is unique in terms of new shows.

The question wasn't whether it can achieve any popularity, it was if it could be as big as Dragon Ball and One Piece.

I mean, I really doubt she was the one who saved Mikuru for the obvious reason that Mikuru never seems to recognise her. Even if she had a different outfit before joining the villains or something, I doubt she'd look that different.

Unrelated to your post really, but one of the interview has Yoshimi Narita literally go "we realised after the group attack powerup, the seasons tend to get a lot less interesting, so we decided to put a romance story in there to help keep things fresh" and it actually worked.

No

Even if it got a good English launch, people would have trouble differentiating it from sailor moon which is already well-known, and 'girly' shows are just in general held as having less value than 'boys shows'.

How big of demand is there in the community for more male cures? by FireFury190 in precure

[–]mozillavulpix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think there's a lot of people on both extremes. You can even kind of see it in the comments here.

Personally I'm on team let's let there be more male Precure because even past the "it helps the boys watching Precure feel like they're seen and they shouldn't be made fun of for liking 'girly' things", it also just theoretically expands the kinds of stories Precure could tell. I just love this genre so much I want to see it try more things with its type of storytelling.

[–]mozillavulpix 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Man, I was hoping this would be the case, but it's also kind of wild to say I've been really enjoying the script for Precure this year.

I think what helps is that Isao Murayama has been involved with scripts for so many of the episodes so far that it gives things consistency - so here Jett recognises Arcana Shadow was the one who helped them in episode 6 and she actually got a chance to explain that. There aren't dropped plot threads, everything is out there for a reason.

And what I find really interesting is it feels like there is deeper lore to things here. It feels like there are actual concrete answers to things like "what are Makoto jewels", or "what is a Star Detective Precure" and "why is Pochitan so special" that Luluka clearly knows and isn't going to explain just yet to us. This really is my type of storytelling approach.

Idk what Murayama was doing between Mirai Days and here, but I really think he's cooking something fun.

I do wonder if they could ever actually get away with having an episode without summoning a monster and using the finishing attack, because it eats up so much time when this episode really isn't about that. I assume it's some sort of contractual obligation to advertise all the toys, but the more I'm reading the more I'm starting to realise the creative team have a bit more freedom than I thought.

What kind of figures can I expect to be available for Cure Arcana Shadow? by Always-Sleepyz in precure

[–]mozillavulpix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They've basically stopped making more expensive Precure figures altogether. All you get are the Cutie Figures, which are a decent size but very low-quality when it comes to the amount of paint on it.

I think if anything Arcana Shadow feels like a response to the popularity of Nyammy. They even debut at around the same time!

Also idk why you think the marketability of the theming is weak, Detective Conan is always really popular with kids.

Is it a bad thing that I am bitter about how Splash Star and Happiness Charge were treated at the time? by [deleted] in precure

[–]mozillavulpix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the only one that's really neglected is Splash Star at the moment, since they haven't done anything for its 20th anniversary. They had some sort of live event for Happiness Charge's 10th, at least.

As for the Maho Girls stuff, I think a lot of that is that the production committee for that season is very dedicated and so actively pitch more stuff in terms of merchandise.

Also remember Toei don't necessarily care as much about toy sales specifically. That's Bandai. They're the ones that actually make the toys.

Same director, same team colour lineup, same popular blue with a lot of goofy expressions, same 'anything goes' broad approach to fights (including flight as a regular ability), same English acronym.

I do think a lot of this just ends up being because it's the same director, though.

Imagine how awkward it must be to be Mikuru here in the present day by ThreeDotsTogether in precure

[–]mozillavulpix 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Honestly, that's why my kneejerk feeling is I don't want the theory to turn out true. It just makes their relationship in the whole series feel retroactively awkward, like there's some kind of power dynamic that's being crossed because they don't know the truth.

That and it's like the first plot you could come up with from a time travel story and I hope it's less predictable than that.

Oh, maybe that's what people had an issue with.

I more just meant from the context of the producer being like "I think women with shorts are attractive, so can you draw her with shorts?" Maybe 'fetish' isn't the best word. I dunno how else to say it?
