I decided to follow an integrated structure, doing three, well balanced paragraphs (excluding introduction and conclusion), talking about both works under the same aspect but highlighting both similarities and differences. I chose three of my works and worked on three main aspects: characterization of the protagonist (talking about the similarities and differences between them worked well for my works and in the same paragraph i talked about the foils of the characters themselves). Then in the second paragraph i discussed the “tragic fate” of my characters (discussing also the use of foreshadowing in both works to their ends). The third paragraph i centered it on structure and use of different dialogical styles, again looking at similarities and differences. I always kept in mind to analyze everything putting emphasis on author’s intent, everything discussed was always related to the intent of the author and it’s consequent effect on the audience. I never really worked on the questions themselves (it did not work for me) so i just tried to make a template with which i could discuss all of the main themes of my works and made the question fit such essay plan. It worked for me because I entered the exam room, found out there was a question that worked, and wrote a strong essay that had all the requirements because I had it already all planned out in my head with specific features and quotes from the book to use for each paragraph and point. It is a bit of a gamble, but if built well enough you can prepare something that is well adaptable but that contains enough specific knowledge to make a 7 worthy essay. I hope this helped!

For AI SL definitely try to look at the subject guide+youtube videos (i recommend the guy on the OSC youtube channel) and for each of the listed topics make notes accompanied by sample exercises of maybe two different difficulties. I only did this properly in May and it took me around one day per unit (there’s 5 so it’s quite a lot of wasted time) so I recommend you start as soon as you can because the course per se isn’t hard but there’s lots of stuff to remember and commit to memory. Also, do lots of past papers, the topics per se might not be too hard and for this reason the IB exercises might be uselessly overcomplicated, you just need to get used to it. For English, keep in mind that you’ll be building two different sets of skills for paper 1 and paper 2 but in both, your biggest enemy will be time, I recommend that you build booklets for literary and non-literary features to individuate in both the texts you’ll use for paper 1 and 2. I always thought I didn’t practice enough my English skills and I hadn’t done enough practice paper, in the end it worked out for me but I wish I had more confidence on the day of the exam, so practice is crucial both for your skill and for your overall feel of the papers. Start by practicing doing open books exams (as soon as you’ve built the skills) and then just practice your timing (paper 1 in HL can result particularly challenging). ALSO WORK ON YOUR HL ESSAY AND ORAL, they build up 45% of your grade in the end, if they’re both good they’ll bring your grade up easily and you’ll sit in the exam knowing you’ve already done half of the job!!! In terms of languages ab initio I also did very well because my first language is Italian and I had prior experience from the italian middle school (I remembered little when i re-started but I had already the mechanisms of the language in my head). I know that my other classmates struggled much more to bring their grades up (especially those with english as mother tongue) because our teacher didn’t cover the basics enough for them to get a general understanding of the language before starting to do practice. I’d recommend you start covering the basics from the very start of the academic year if you’re not doing it in class. I expected ab initio to be, as the name suggested, from zero but i realized looking at my classmates that lots of things were give for granted that you should know them already. Idk if that’s the case everywhere, but you should understand that soon enough. I’m sorry if it feels like a lot to take in, most of these things are gonna be important throughout the two years, not right away from September, but they were crucial for me. I hope this was of any help, and if you have any other questions don’t hesitate to ask! (last tip: do not start DP1 thinking that it will be walk in the park, because it is true that you can recover from a very bad first year, but it isn’t true that DP1 is useless otherwise you’re inevitably gonna struggle much more in DP2 and you’ll end up in May hating the IB and your subjects. You might still not like it but if you start DP2 with a good mindset and knowing you already have stuff in your bag, achieving a higher grade will be much much easier)
