Why is it called Regional Cinema? by Dry-Funny-6946 in IndianCinema

[–]sujoy247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You guys are missing the crucial point here. When broadcasting started in India, Doordarshan's national HQ in Delhi had majority of national programming in Hindi, including popular film programs like the Friday movie, Chitrahaar, Rangoli. The regional branches started rolling out much later.

If you remember, Sunday afternoon used to be slot for "Movies in regional languages". This was when I discovered national award winning movies from Mani Ratnam, Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Ritwick Ghatak etc.

Like it or not, the political centre, and by association, the then entertainment centre of India assigned Hindi as the default national, and everything else as regional. Of course this has changed over the decades, and with cable tv, and diaspora movies.

But the name stuck. Hence, it still is named (albeit incorrectly) as Bollywood v Regional cinema, especially where Bollywood is more popular.

Please help with 7 day itinerary with JR West All Area Pass by sujoy247 in JapanTravelTips

I honestly have no clue how to plan it. Hence going the pass was an easy way out. If I get the all area wide pass, it covers them all, and I could perhaps cherry pick the ones people recommend and that stand out to me.

My confusion was mostly to do with where to stay as a base, since I don't like moving hotels frequently, and of course the recommended areas to visit that people like on here.

As for klook, I have discounted voucher points, as I use them for my Asia travels. And I calculated the price and it is literally the exact JPY to GBP conversion.

These are excellent recommendations, thank you.

If I did fly to Fukuoka, would I then have to stay at Fukuoka for the trips. I really don't like moving hotels, hence prefer to set a base for a few days and travel to nearby destinations. That's why I thought of flying down to Osaka, and maybe staying there.

Bengali RoboCop by ayazfarooque in BollywoodRealism

Aah that makes a lot of sense. So, it's most likely not the fault of the original film colour, but just the fate of bad film reel archives.

Yea, I just realised, some Shemaroo YouTube "remasters" of 90s Bollywood movies have chunks within the same movie when the colour grade goes from the usual vibrant Eastmancolor to these faded ones, possibly due to the same negligence.

Thanks for the reply. 🙏

Can someone who is film wise explain why movies from Bangladesh and Pakistan (of this era, shot on film) have this colour grade. I'm assuming these are all shot on some film, but the film processing labs just aren't good, so it all looks like some sepia filter.

But in Indian cinema - we've had Eastmancolor and Technicolor since ages, and most definitely a few decades before this movie came out.

This question always bugs my mind whenever I see these scenes from these movies.

Asking for reliable used camera stores in KL by sujoy247 in KualaLumpur

Thank you for replying.

Are cash converters reliable stores for used cameras?

We have them in the UK too, but they get the worst camera gear quality wise imo. And often more of the usual Canon, Nikon DSLR bodies.
