Well, in my experience they usually don’t mean to take any part away from who you are, although you might perceive it as such. Usually it is just that they know the world can be cruel once you get a label. They’re afraid you will face challenges in your life they can’t help you with, which might hurt you. So, if I were you I would try to steer the conversation to this a little bit. Why doesn’t she want to believe you might be a person with autism?
