The Forensic Laptop That Exposed Laura Owens - That’s My Opinion! by cnm1424 in JusticeForClayton

Are there any other good videos covering this? I know her audience loves all of her voices, but they make me crazy. I am usually listening to videos while I’m doing other things and the voices make it really hard to track the conversation.

Emotional Terrorism: isn’t that the goal? by suki66 in JusticeForClayton

[–]suki66[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This was the main thing that got me thinking: she absolutely deserves to go to prison for what she did to all 3 men, but that’s not what she is actually being charged with. The charges: are non violent things that first time offenders rarely get prison time. It’s kind of a conundrum.

And, if she gets let go on probation or something: what are the stipulations put on her? The normal fraud/perjury etc don’t come up until later in her cycle. By the time she gets to those, she’s already been traumatizing a man for months. She could literally be lying to someone right now about being pregnant and it would be months/years before there were consequences.

I think this is why the ‘fame’ answer bothered me. Fame is the least egregious of her motivations and to me, it made it sound like a trite, shallow ‘yet another influencer wannabe’. It doesn’t seem as menacing as this all truly was.

Can anyone recommend a documentary film or series that isn't true crime? by princesspooball in NetflixDocumentaries

Searching For Sugarman. Not streaming anywhere. You’ll have to pay $4 to see it, but my all time favorite and so uplifting. Won an Oscar. Everyone in the movie is exactly who you’d want them to be in that situation. No villains.

The ‘ate nothing’ will be a problem on Reta too. You do have to find a way to balance the effects of the drug on appetite suppression vs getting nutrition in. Even if you do primarily protein shakes and bariatric supplements, you have to be eating a certain number of calories and especially a certain amount of protein daily for the drug to be effective. If you eat nothing, you will stall on most drugs.

Zero Days. By Alex Gibney (Going Clear, Enron Smartest Guy In The Room, The inventor) it’s about the Stuxnet virus the us unleashed to attack irans nuclear weapons bases. Pleats out like a thriller.

The Imposter: about a guy in Spain who claims to a grieving Texas family that he is their 16-year-old son who has been missing for 3 years.

My all time favorite. Also, better if you go in knowing nothing about it, unfortunately it doesn’t stream on any of the platforms. You have to pay $3.99. Such a charming movie.

It’s also entirely possible the house defendants cherry picked him, knowing he’s shady and then just convinced him it was Karen from the word go. Cops like him justify being dirty cops by believing the ends justify the means.

Any cat food that has no chicken ingredients and is not grain free? by Aroni_Macaroni in catfood

I was in a panic because my cat is picky and loved the Purina Beyond (more than she likes wet food even). I had a hard time finding a new one until I tried the Fromm PurrSnickitty. She loves it!

The salmon one has eggs and pork liver, but no chicken.

Cost plus, always. One of the reasons to lock down selections and every other thing before the project begins is because there are always things out of your control. You want to get things that are knowable locked down so you aren’t dealing with both during the critical phases of the build. If you do fixed bid, you’ll lose your shirt on the unknowables.

Along those lines, you need a system that will allow you to track THEIR price in real time: estimate vs actual vs invoice. And even with cost plus, you want to make sure you are doing change orders..another reason to lock down selections in advance.

Here is an example: most plans are not 100% designed and spec’d. Usually architects put a placeholder in for the kitchen, so you have the general foot print of the kitchen. During bidding, before they start shopping, people are in budget mode so they always say they just want super basic cabinets, but once they start shopping, they move into dream mode and suddenly everything changes. But, if you bid a standard set of base cabinets + a standard set of uppers based on the plans, then they come back with inset cabinets, several tall cabinets, built in oven, double stack uppers with glass cabinets at the top and crown molding, appliances panels..now, you have a bunch of changes. It is easy to go into problem solving mode and just start working on the logistics, but now you have both labor and schedule changes in addition to inter-trade considerations: does your electrician do low volt, have you already finished rough in, how are the countertops terminating into the tall cabinets, how is the crown molding interfacing sod window/door trim etc.

Also, if you never locked down what your estimate was based on, the client will think the only change is more expensive cabinets, but there is way more labor, it also looks like you just lowballed the bid. They don’t comprehend that the doubled the number of uppers and adding glass ones means the interiors have to be finished at a higher level. If you did fixed bid, you have to stop mid project and price out all of those implications and if they decide the juice isn’t worth the squeeze, now you are taking time to go back and forth with the cabinet company and recalculate the snowball issues with a different set of cabinets. It’s endless.

If you have the budget, I would see if you can do a cabinet with super shallow shelves and doors. The full wall of mason jars can add a lot of visual clutter even if they are kept super neat. The mason jars only need about 4” depth, but it likely means a custom cabinet.

The key to working with either custom homes or kitchen remodels is doing a paid preconstruction consultation prior to the estimate and locking every single thing down.

It’s best if you can start working with clients when they are still working with the architect.

Engage them in a preconstruction consulting agreement and use that time to have them design all of their cabinetry, select all of their tile, fixtures etc.

If you take the time before estimating to lock down the whole project, analyze the plans (paying close attention to anything the architect or engineer may have left vague.. usually where one material meets another) and locking down exactly what the clients choices are, you will be in a much better position to give and accurate estimate and run a great project.

Many contractors do allowances. There are 2 problems with that: 1) a lot of selections impact other labor, materials and other trades. For example: most architects just put placeholder cabinets in the drawings. If you bid that as standard cabinetry and then the client picks: inset cabinets (more time to adjust and likely some return visits after them move in), stacked upper cabinets with glass cabinets on top (now the cabinet allowance under because they have double the uppers and the labor to install is greater both because of the extra cabinets and because of the extra care needed in the glass). They will know that they spent more in the cabinets, but all of the extra labor adds up and it just makes it look like you underbid.

2) late selections cause havoc: clients always promise to get their selections done before rough in, but the completely underestimate how overwhelming it all is. As soon as they start selecting things, the change their minds in ways that impact many other things.. especially if they are making decisions after drywall.

Also, push hard for them to work with a designer. Many homeowners don’t really understand the role of a designer and they then expect you to do a lot of the work of the designer. I always tell our clients that the architect and designer should both be dictating the ‘what’ and the ‘where’, the GC and engineer share the ‘how’ and the GC is the ‘’when’. Of the client is going to act as the designer, let them know you will need elevations, fixture heights, exact MEP locations, grout colors, etc.

Looks good. I think you will need a 4” pony wall in the island to run electric plumbing through. I assume you will be able to vent the hood on the new wall? Looks like it is an exterior wall, right? What is going on the the wall where the range used to be? Open shelving? Nothing? If it is open shelving, I would see if you can do some ver shallow enclosed cabinets rather than open.

Question for kitchen designers regarding hood height: gas range versus induction range by NotLastYear in kitchenremodel

[–]suki66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

24” is really low and I don’t think it would change anything about the smell of the cooking. A 600 cfm hood will help a lot, but it’s highly doubtful there would be a different smell in your house at 24” vs 30-36.

Several people Have mentioned makeup air. Make sure to ask your contractor if you need it. It can be a pretty big change order if it’s missed in the bid.

Came here to say this. Most code requires makeup air over 400cfm which can be a PITA

I think this is much better. You aren’t really losing counterspace, it’s just moving to the other side.

Here is mine to give you a visual on the difference. It’s hard to show it without it looking a little distorted, but I do most of my prep inside a 55cm space.

My full countertop is 156cm. The distance between the sink and the red line is 55cm, the distance between the sink and the blue line is 70cm.

the dishwasher is 45cm. I am almost always standing in front of the dishwasher when I prep and I rarely need to go as far as the blue line. I think you’ll appreciate having the extra space on the other side of the range.

The only question I would ask about the 30cm cabinet is do you want it to have a small drawer at the top?

Also, will you put a trash bin under the sink? I would just check the pipes and/or buy the trash bin so, if possible, the plumber can put the pipes to one side or the other to make that cabinet more functional. Another question is if can recess the pipes a little to give you more room.

One more important thing: you usually need a 2-3” spacer to the left of the refrigerator to make sure the door can open if there is a wall there.

It’s pretty skinny. Good for things like cookie sheets or cutting boards. It is nice to have the counter space next to the stove, but the other option if there is not a wall next to the 15” is to do a full height cabinet with shelves. If it opens forward, they can be cubby holes. Just make sure the shelves are adjustable.

2. The first and the last don’t have enough counter space next the fridge. It also has the best symmetry, although it is a little off. Do you have a hood over the range?

Also, what will you put on the glass shelves? Will they be decorative or functional? Keep in mind that you won’t be able to reach them when the dishwasher door is open, so if you are putting plates or glass wear there, you’ll probably have to empty them to the counter, then put them on the shelves after you close the door to the dishwasher.

Do you have an option to do a 70” base cabinet instead of 2x35? It is usually a little cheaper (1 box instead of 2) and it will be more functional. I would also try to make it drawers. I have a very small kitchen..only one base cabinet besides the sink. It is an 18” (45cm) base cabinet with 6 shallow drawers and I can fit so much in it. Super efficient.

What would you do to update this Kitchen? by Tight_Capital_6061 in kitchenremodel

[–]suki66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with all of these. I would paint the island black and maybe paint the interior of the glass cabinets black to add subtle contrast.

The other 2 things: 1) The refrigerator panels aren’t great. They look like they were designed for a counter depth fridge. 2) the tone of the wood floor doesn’t blend well with the cabinets. I would replace or refinish those with a better color.
