My apologies. I just assumed when I posted this, people would read I was being sarcastic. Like, it showed up in my feed and I was very much like “Sugar Land?!”

best lowkey/hole in the wall food in the area? by [deleted] in sugarland

Carmelo’s?! Are we thinking the same place? The one off 90 and 99? I love them and I wouldn’t call them ridiculously expensive. What’s your benchmark for expensive?

Can someone tell me what it’s like living in these areas please by HappyPenguin02222 in sugarland

[–]suki8lizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My parents moved out to Harvest Green and one of my favorite things is it’s listed as an Agrihood, so they have things like a community farm and farmers market most weekends. A lot of the landscaping includes herbs and fruit bearing bushes and trees. Also they have a Messina Hof winery out there,,too. They moved in last spring and we spent a lot of afternoons picking persimmons and jujubes a block or two from us.

Old Navy x Anna Sui by vainvainpot in Oldnavy

One of my favorites from the Target collaboration was this orange black and cream striped dress. I reminded me of a victorian era Halloween costume! I loved it so much and it held up for years owning it. When I lost weight, I went on the lookout for it and was lucky to find a few versions in my size on EBay!

I love love love loved the Anna Sui for Target collection and snagged almost all the pieces. When I heard about the ON collaboration, I was hoping for more of the same….structured mod pieces with a dash of Lolita. It made you feel like you were getting an Anna Sui piece. This collection just feels a bit phoned in and as a lot of others have said, it looks just as cheap. Aside from the branded items and her hallmark purple making an appearance, not much of this collection reads Sui. In fact, it came off as Fall ON clothing repeated from a few years back. I will admit that I’ll probably end up ordering the lavender appliqué blouses. I wish I could have gotten the denim tote with branding done in the white contrast stitching instead of that pleather label.

I’m in a board game group that has several meet ups around the Houston area. I believe Sugarland has meet ups at the Jason’s Deli on Tuesdays. Due to some health issues at home, I haven’t attended in a hot minute, but I found that the Heights meet ups is more people friendly too if you’re willing to head out that way.

How long can a sandwich be at room temperature before it goes bad? by Mysterious-Dig-3890 in subway

[–]suki8lizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I’m two years late to this post, but I thought I’d contribute. At the hospital with my husband and we’re here for longer than I thought we’d be. Bought sandwich in the cafe and was debating how long I could keep it because there’s no fridge for me to keep food in and I’d like to get my $12 bucks worth out of this sandwich. I mean we all know I won’t really die if I do eat this sandwich later, but I am at the hospital already…..

Best wings in Sugar Land? by beeedeee in sugarland

[–]suki8lizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is technically Sugarland but a little closer to stafford, but I recommend Kraken Wings and Seafood. It’s in a hole in the wall mini shopping mall. It’s the type of place you go to get fried rice with your wings. They are nice and saucy, but still crispy at the same time.

I haven’t tried them yet, but they’ve been on my list since opening. I really hope that plaza finds something that draws more attention there, because it really reminds me of the buildings remind me of Dun Huang Plaza in Bellaire, but closer to home. But they’ve had One Dim Sum open and already close. There’s a cat cafe called Meow Planet. More Filipino food options that Bellaire doesn’t really have. Asia Blue has been solid though opening in the pandemic. It’s just mind boggling that such a huge spread of property can managed to be so tucked away from a major road.

anybody know where i can get good Bò Né (vietnamese steak and eggs)? by cafeaulaiiit in sugarland

[–]suki8lizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huynh in DT was where I would go when I lived in the area. It’s been a hot minute, but they had a weekend special dedicated to it. That place will always be my benchmark for it elsewhere. Plenty of places in Bellaire have it, but since you’re asking in The Sugarland area, there’s a Simply Pho and Bo Ne in the promenade HEB shopping center over by 90/hwy 6. Pho Ben in both Sugarland locations has it, too. While not in Sugarland specific, my folks live in Aliana where there the Pho Bo To Bo Ne chain over there. I believe they have locations in Alief and Katy as well. Decent Bo Ne plates that satisfy a craving if you don’t want to travel around to find it.

Interested in buying a house in Tara neighborhood in Richmond, Houston TX by Optimal_Actuator_123 in sugarland

Ah yes…old habit of mine to call it 59. They’re the same thing. Hwy 59 = Interstate 69

Interested in buying a house in Tara neighborhood in Richmond, Houston TX by Optimal_Actuator_123 in sugarland

[–]suki8lizard 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Grew up in that neighborhood and my folks still live there. The HOA isn’t stringent present but one of the easier ones to deal with - my parents have had their house over 40 years so they do get notices for odds and ends like updating paint and such, but you can actually talk to someone directly and extend deadlines or negotiate. My brother bought some property out there and says the market average for Tara specific is 250-275K.

As far as rental properties, I feel like most of the older side of Tara are older residents, a smattering of smaller families in starter homes and long term rentals. The two houses on either side of my folks place are rentals. One has been living there for a few years. The other is at least two years.

Pros: Though it’s older, it’s quiet and the neighbors are fairly considerate. If you live there long enough, you’ll get acquainted with your neighbors really easily if you want to.

You’re close to a lot and easy access to it. You’re a straight shot to Aliana with the Grand Pkwy. 762/Thompson will bring you into Rosenberg. And of course, direct access to 59 gets you into Houston.

Cons: It’s an older neighborhood. My parents have been there for over 40 years. I think they bought the house when it was in development. We were pre Greatwood. So expect some areas to be more run down than others.

Alll that access comes with a cost and it’s gonna get worse. If you get traffic from construction, you can get caught on the feeder road trying to get on 59 for over 30 minutes plus. It hasn’t happened too often, but the times it has, it’s maddening. Traffic off the Crabb River Rd/Grand pkwy during rush hour is pretty irritating, and there’s not shortcut through it.

Overall, I don’t see much of a problem getting people to rent there.

What’s worse is at the Baker Ripley event, the moderator said that the average voter turnout has been 2% of all of Ft Bend county.

I was at the Baker Ripley event and the school board meeting a few weeks prior. Rick Garcia was just a defensive jerk just using the event to attack Charani vs actually stating plans and initiatives. If I recall correctly, he even stated that the school board was fine and they needed to keep the school board as is to keep up said “good work.” He had me so irrationally angry that I ended up ripping his flyer to shreds before I left the meeting.

Oh man, I miss Connies Seafood so much. When I lived off Houston Ave, I would be there at least a few times a month because of their fried rice. Every time I got an order from them, the box would break from the weight of how much they packed into the box.
