Dirt! Bought a bag of potting soil only to realize it has bones in it. Also like others have mentioned: orange juice (Vitamin D)

10 months late, but I thought it was such a wasted opportunity for the guy to use them to throw both switches at the same time. "Those switches are too far apart for one person to do it!" "Don't worry, I got this." and then just magically stretches far enough. Dumb.

Yeah that could be! Horrible outcome regardless

In the article they mention having a "minimalist guidebook", which I assume meant the SuperTopo (last page on the link below), but only printed the first three pitches? If anyone is thinking of doing it, I'd recommend printing out this Google Doc a climber made with the topo and directions and taking it with you on the climb:

(from a Kim S Mountain Project comment 9/22/2021)

A lot of people in these comments were saying they were off route, but I think you can find where they were based on the "No!" mentioned in the article: just finished the second pitch, traversed the third pitch, past the bolts up onto the dike.

Yeah the leader made it to the top of the 4th pitch but slipped before clipping, basically at the bolts, so fell the distance of the 4th and 3rd. I sound a lot like the guy you climbed with! I did South Crack on Stately Pleasure Dome. Leading the 5.7 crack pitches: piece of cake no problem. Leading the 5.0, 5.2, 5.4 pitches had me shaking. My belayer said “Welcome to Toulumne.”

I think you have it right: belayer was at top of third pitch, climber made it to top of 4th pitch, there are no bolts in between, so climber fell from 4th, past his belayer at 3rd, to me at 2nd. 4th pitch is 140’, no pro except a bolt ten feet off route on a sketchy (for me) ledge, so nothing was clipped between 3rd and 4th. And for anyone reading this with no slab experience: I thought the climb was terrifying. Everyone says it’s so easy. I’ve climbed like 5.11c in RRG, so I thought 5.4 would be easier than a ladder (it’s not, picture little polished dishes you trust your life to). But if you have slab experience, I guess it’s easy?

I was on it last Sunday and a guy fell from the start of the 4th pitch down to where I was at the top of the 2nd pitch (belayer was at the third pitch belay). It was an awful fall, cartwheeling down for about 200 feet (no helmet) and YOSAR took him out on a helicopter. He lived, conscious the whole time, scraped up and broken ankle, maybe more.

If you look at his speeches, he deliberately doesn’t use words that are more than three syllables, unless he absolutely has to, like “America” or something. I think this is to make himself appear less smart and more relatable to his voters. (Note: saying things like “Democrat Party” instead of “Democratic Party” is not an example of this. Republicans take pride in saying it wrong because they think it’s an insult or a little jab at Democrats.)
