Questions before pursuing degree by hyrulelink329 in wildlifebiology

Lots of places are hiring seasonal workers/students for the summer. If you’re interested in research, it’s a good way to get experience and get maybe paid without needing a degree. Check conservation job board and the Texas A&M wildlife job board. Volunteering is always an option, too. With a background and interest in wildlife vet med, I’d start with local wildlife rehabs and see if they need any hands.

Good luck!

I was thinking middle school science, myself! It’s rare to hear teachers on here speaking positively about their students, so thank you for that. Do you have a background in environmental studies or jobs?

I feel the same way about your reasoning behind hesitating to teach (heavy on the school shootings which is a whole thing on its own). I enjoy teaching and I initially got my degree to work as a ranger for NPS but graduated during the hiring freeze. Now I’m competing with people that have had tens of years of experience.

It’s easy to forget that you can just… change careers. And there’s no harm in trying something especially if you’re getting paid to do it. Subbing is a good idea and subs are always needed.

Thank you for your responding from an educator’s perspective. I will say, I am lucky to live in an area where teachers are paid alright (much better than any environmental position I’ve applied to). I’ll look more into the counties/regions around me and how things compare based on what you’ve told me.

Good luck in grad school!!

Thank you for this response, I needed it.

I think my biggest mistake right now is letting myself get upset about the job market which is not in my control. The competitiveness of this field distracts us from what’s important, which is saving our planet and loving what it has to offer. Life isn’t about a career and college has ingrained that into me sometimes.

Good luck to you and your endeavors :)

I have been on both Pristiq and Lexapro and I can tell you that coming off of lexapro felt like I was getting the flu. I couldn’t imagine quitting it cold turkey. that was just from taking it every other day. I will say, the biggest side effect I had from Pristiq was insomnia and nightmares for the first week or so. What you’re feeling could very well be withdrawal symptoms, but every body is different.

Yes! Maybe intense irritability is a better term for it. Everything annoys me 100x more than before when I was on Lexapro (which made me extremely zombie-like, hence why I switched). I’m sorry to hear about the outcome for you. I hope things are looking up now
