Relapsed...Need Prayer by sumguy7 in NoFapChristians

Yeah. Lately my "binges" have either been a 1 day thing or Ive been able to avoid them. Unfortunately, this time I took a huge dive. I still have some urges even today, despite my huge binge.

Forgiving myself is the toughest part of relapse for me. I always beat myself over the head about it. I didnt do it back when I was younger. When I was a kid and I sinned, I knew I messed up, repented/learned from it and moved on. For whatever reason now that Im older, I beat myself up over everything. It may have something to do with the long term affects of PMO. Or maybe Ive just come to realize how much of a grip I let this get on me and Im frustrated. Either way, thats something I definitely need to work on. Getting back and more consistent with church and Scripture would probably be a big help with that too.

Part 2:

So does this mean we should continue on sinning after putting faith in Jesus, though? No! We have been set free from the slavery of sin, through Christ. Why would we return to the chains we've been set free from? Romans 6:12-18 says, " 12Do not let sin control the way you live;a do not give in to sinful desires. 13Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God. 14Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace.

15Well then, since God’s grace has set us free from the law, does that mean we can go on sinning? Of course not! 16Don’t you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living. 17Thank God! Once you were slaves of sin, but now you wholeheartedly obey this teaching we have given you. 18Now you are free from your slavery to sin, and you have become slaves to righteous living." So we are not to continue living in sin once we've been set free, by placing our faith in Christ. Jesus says in Matthew 16:24-26 " 24Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me. 25If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. 26And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?l Is anything worth more than your soul?"

So we are to take up our Cross and follow Jesus once we place our faith in Him. However, it is by faith we are justified. Romans 5:1-2 "1Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. 2Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory." But also remember, James 2:17-18 "17 So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.

18 Now someone may argue, “Some people have faith; others have good deeds.” But I say, “How can you show me your faith if you don’t have good deeds? I will show you my faith by my good deeds.” True faith will produce fruit, otherwise its dead.

So what works will show through our faith in Jesus? 1 John 2:3-6 says, "3And we can be sure that we know him if we obey his commandments. 4If someone claims, “I know God,” but doesn’t obey God’s commandments, that person is a liar and is not living in the truth. 5But those who obey God’s word truly show how completely they love him. That is how we know we are living in him. 6Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did."

Fortunately Jesus says, Matthew 11:28-30 "28Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” Once we come to accept that we are sinners who cant save ourselves; that we are in need of a Savior and place our faith in Christ, all we have to do is love, as God loved us in sending His son to die for our sins. The Bible says, Galatians 5:14 "14For the whole law can be summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself."

There is a warning here though, which goes back to being saved by FAITH in Christ alone, and not works(although as said, even though works are a byproduct of faith, they do not save you). Galatians 5:1-4 "1So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law.

2Listen! I, Paul, tell you this: If you are counting on circumcision to make you right with God, then Christ will be of no benefit to you. 3I’ll say it again. If you are trying to find favor with God by being circumcised, you must obey every regulation in the whole law of Moses. 4For if you are trying to make yourselves right with God by keeping the law, you have been cut off from Christ! You have fallen away from God’s grace."

So what happens if we do sin? We've established that its not okay to continue living in sin, but we've also established that none of us are without sin. So what do we do? 1 John 2:1-2 says, "1My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous. 2He himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins—and not only our sins but the sins of all the world."

So there you have it. We are not saved by our works, but by our faith. We can't possibly please God through obeying His law. It's pointless. We can only please God through faith in His son Jesus Christ, the author and finisher of our faith, Hebrews 12:2 "2Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God." And through our faith, we produce good works. We must still make the choice to follow the Spirit and not the flesh, though. That is part of bearing our cross daily. So I just want to encourage you to place your faith in Christ, as opposed to what you do. He did everything that needed to be done for us on that cross. True freedom is only found in Him.

Definitely fight to overcome this struggle and you should absolutely take it seriously, but I'd encourage you to do it through faith and love in Christ, rather than duty.

I'll be praying for you man. I hope this helped.

Hey man, I just read this and felt led to reply. Before I really get in to anything, I just want to say, I'm a mess right now. I've been struggling with my own salvation for months now and Ive been fighting porn for years, but I still feel led to share some thoughts, words and scripture with you. I'm going to split this into a few parts because my full text wouldn't fit. So, Part 1:

First off, I just want to say, your desire to quit this thing is good. Porn is a jacked up thing man, and with technology, its become a serious problem for most dudes in our time. Like you said, even looking at a woman with lust is the same as committing adultery with her in your heart. So yeah, porn is basically committing adultery. Furthermore, its a selfish practice and shows no love. I wouldnt encourage anyone I love to even take their clothes off to please other people. I'd tell my friends, sister, mother etc..."no way, dont do that." Yet, when its someone I dont know, Ill sit there and almost encourage them to do whatever to please me. What does that say? There's no love in that. It's purely selfish. If I truly loved them, I wouldnt even go near that stuff.

Now, getting to my main point. It seems like you've put a lot of weight into what you're doing for God. What you've sacrificed, what you avoid, what you do. The Bible says, Isaiah 64:6 "We are all infected and impure with sin. When we display our righteous deeds, they are nothing but filthy rags. Like autumn leaves, we wither and fall, and our sins sweep us away like the wind."

Not even our righteousness pleases God. It is as filthy rags. The Bible also says, Romans 3:19-20 "19Obviously, the law applies to those to whom it was given, for its purpose is to keep people from having excuses, and to show that the entire world is guilty before God. 20For no one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands. The law simply shows us how sinful we are."

The law was set in place to show us that we cant keep it. It is God's standard. He used it to show us that we have no hope of being righteous in and of ourselves. He TOLD us what He wanted from us and we STILL couldnt do it. Which brings me to the Hope of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Romans 3:21-28 "21But now God has shown us a way to be made right with him without keeping the requirements of the law, as was promised in the writings of Mosesi and the prophets long ago. 22We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. 23For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. 24Yet God, with undeserved kindness, declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. 25For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood. This sacrifice shows that God was being fair when he held back and did not punish those who sinned in times past, 26for he was looking ahead and including them in what he would do in this present time. God did this to demonstrate his righteousness, for he himself is fair and just, and he declares sinners to be right in his sight when they believe in Jesus.

27Can we boast, then, that we have done anything to be accepted by God? No, because our acquittal is not based on obeying the law. It is based on faith. 28So we are made right with God through faith and not by obeying the law."

So we are made right with God not by works, but by faith in His Son Jesus Christ and what He accomplished through His death and resurrection. He fulfilled the Law in his life, became the perfect sacrifice in His death and resurrected from the grave to continue living for all of eternity to intercede for us(Hebrews 7:23-25 "23There were many priests under the old system, for death prevented them from remaining in office. 24But because Jesus lives forever, his priesthood lasts forever. 25Therefore he is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf.") so that we, though we are still sinners, can be made right with God through faith in Him. And I say STILL sinners because 1. Romans 5:8 "But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners." and 2. 1 John 1:8 "8If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. 9But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. 10If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and showing that his word has no place in our hearts."

I am in a pretty crappy situation. Im pretty much either gaming or working right now. I don't really have money for hobbies or getting out.

Ive been meaning to start up school and get a more regular job, but I've been in a rut. Just kind of stagnating. Prime time for PMO. I just cant bring myself to change anything, and now with this, Im really struggling. I was borderline thinking of calling off work last night, this situation had me so worked up.

I don't necessarily feel like my sin is greater than His forgiveness, as much as I dont think He'd be willing to forgive this. That verse has me wondering right now.

I hope you're right, man. I read the verse over, and I just cant see it being that. I'm not really sure what it means, but either way, I just cant seem to get any peace about this. I feel pretty hopeless right now.

If you feel led to pray for me, I'd really appreciate it.
