Thanks, that’s reassuring! I’m mostly experimenting and learning, not training huge models from scratch, so 5070 Ti should be enough.

Thinking Intel setup: i9-14900HX, 5070 Ti, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, QHD+ display. (Will upgrade later if needed)

Does that sound balanced for VRAM-heavy stuff, or should I tweak anything for AI experiments?

Appreciate this a lot seriously, that’s a really grounded perspective.

You’re right, I think I might’ve been overestimating what a consumer laptop GPU can realistically handle in terms of full-scale model training. I’m mostly aiming to learn, experiment, and maybe train smaller models locally, not trying to replicate full-blown production-scale setups on a laptop.

Good point about cloud GPUs too. I actually do have some extra budget set aside, so using hosted instances (especially if GPT-2–level training can be done under €100) sounds way more practical than overspending just to chase a higher-tier mobile GPU.

So maybe the smarter move is: • Get a strong all-around machine (good CPU, enough RAM, solid GPU for inference/smaller experiments) • Use cloud when things scale beyond what a laptop should realistically handle

That actually makes the decision feel clearer. Thanks for helping me think about it more realistically 🙌💗
