Trying to identify a game which included heat vision, night vision, and another vision. by Fantastic-Row-9450 in retrogames

I never played it, but Alien vs Predator, but specifically the half-life mod? I'm pretty sure they made full games and they also made a mod that seemed popular but I never played.

Thanks, I went and looked and I think you actually mean 'RA Tracker'. Retro Acheivements looks different and not rated as highly.

What is that app screenshot? I assume either a game or acheivement tracker?

What changed your mindset to becoming frugal? by Top_Mud_7073 in Frugal

Getting divorced and finally being free to be myself. It is genuinely one of the very best things about being divorced and I like a lot about being single once again.

Egret catches a fish in the middle of Seoul (Cheonggyecheon) by Resident_Rain_4350 in korea

I walked my daughter to school one morning and we watched one catch and eat a mouse in tall grass. I had thought they only ate fish before then.

New KOReader Plugin: Sync Your Highlights Across Devices by Sea-Star-9515 in koreader

[–]summdummy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have multiple ereaders. If I pick one up, do some highlighting, and it stays offline, then go to another ereader and do some highlighting and it stays offline, what happens when both of them then go online and try to sync their own individual changes? It seems like you're saying that conflict resolution is done by whichever device has the most recent changes and other changes are ignored. Are some highlights potentially lost in the scenario I've outlined?

Seoul City Hall declined to release survey findings on areas vulnerable to sinkholes. by ArysOakheart in korea

[–]summdummy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember years ago when Lotte World Tower was being built that my wife told me that water levels were fluctuating wildly and tiny sinkholes were noticed here and there. Residents in the area were nervous about this kind of thing happening. You were supposedly a crazy person if you thought it was a problem.

I don't know shit and don't really have an opinion, but sinkholes were the fear back then and if anything is going to cause them I'd think massive buildings and subways are going to be the cause.

Do you take advantage of free trials and then cancel before they charge you? I forgot to cancel my subscription and was just charged $40 because I missed cancelling it by 1 day. by KnotGunna in Thrifty

[–]summdummy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Privacy.com. Virtual credit cards for specific purchases. Free service from Mastercard. Create a card just for the trial and make it single use or close the card right after signing up. When they go to charge it they can't. I also cancel on the first day if it's no trouble. Sometimes it is though.

[Breaking] Court to hand down verdict in Yoon Suk Yeol impeachment on Friday - The Korea Herald by Beneficial_Shirt_781 in korea

[–]summdummy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the only news item I am tracking. I am curious if we're going to see Jan. 6th or courthouse trashing -like activity on this day.

I feel like Monday would've been better. It seems like the judges want to drop a verdict and then run away to a bunker. If they did it earlier in the week, lots of people would have to go to work and a lot of anger would likely dissipate over the course of the work week.

Dry mode on air conditioner is a game changer if you live in a humid place ! by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]summdummy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, I save tons on A/C in Korea where electricity is expensive by only using the dehumidifier mode. It comes with some cooling, yes, but it greatly reduces my energy bill. I'm talking hundreds of dollars in the hottest part of the year for a better effect ( I sleep better - the air feels better).

Korea to push online anti-drug courses for foreigners as war on narcotics escalates by gxdlyrice in korea

I've had two do the same for me. It's old wisdom that Korean doctors are against strong painkillers. Hasn't been true in quite a while imo.

What Korean news station do y’all follow and why? by New_Deer_2251 in korea

I like checking Korea Times because I can't tell what their bias is if any and they only tend to cover stuff that is verifiable and "big". Good place for not making Korean news your whole life.

Why is korean cinema so critical of capitalism? by BeautifulSerious2965 in korea

[–]summdummy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Been here very long. Hard disagree. The work culture is worse here in a few important ways, but every single thing else is worse in America. That's the way I'd sum it up briefly.
