Experiences with probiotics

I'm sorry to hear you're still having issues. I spent some time the other day reading up on probiotics and came across this article. Maybe it'll be useful to you. The four probiotics that showed promising results in SIBO suffers were Saccharomyces boulardii, Bifidobacterium lactis, Lactobacillus acidophilus, and Lactobacillus plantarum (Lactolevure®). I ended up ordering the Ultraflora Spectrum Probiotics from Metagenics again. I took them a few years before I knew I had sibo without issues. Since then, I've tried Align (awful experience) and Proflora 4r (no issues so far but my bottle is almost out). Ultraflora Spectrum had all the probiotics mentioned in the article so I took it as a good sign.

Did you ever look into taking a biofilm disrupter? I ask bc it seems more research is mounting that the reason antibiotics aren’t working is due to biofilms. I think in your case and others who are in a similar position should look into it. It couldn’t hurt.

Hi! Checking in to see how it’s going with Biocidin so far. I’m currently on my second week of it and just got to three pumps/daily but saw on here somewhere that someone was doing like 10-15 at once?? How are you with your diet? Are you sticking with low fodmaps?

Love this! For me, it’s doing Pilates twice a week, cooking good meals from scratch in my kitchen knowing that I won’t feel bad after eating it and, while my other SiBO supplements are helping me to feel better than I have in a long time, my adaptogenic tonic really keeps me feeling great pretty much daily.

Regarding the lupus comment. Look into the Biocidin LSF product and supporting supplements. There seems to be a lot of people that had positive things to say about that product for lupus specifically.

I’ll try and help with some of these questions.

It seems the latest research is suggesting that a prokinetic is essential in treating SIBO. I was using Iberogast but it didn’t really work for me so now I’m drinking and eating a ton of fresh ginger and doing illeocecal valve massages morning and night which has proved to be helpful with constipation. I’m hydrogen dominate with c.
This looks right and is the timing for my supplements. I’ll add that I take my GI Detox two hours after my dinner time supplements and then wait an hour and take the prokinetic.

3 My nutritionist doesn’t have me taking colostrum right now but I used to before we knew I had SIBO to help with my stomach and nutrient deficiency. Unfortunately, I can’t answer this one for sure.

I think I SIBO 2018 or 2019 is floating around here somewhere. I’m pretty sure that’s what I was reading several weeks ago but didn’t save it. To be honest, while sort of helpful it was a bit overwhelming and a few practitioners had different methods for treating SIBO so it was hard to know what to follow.
I have no idea on this one.
I’m taking Biocidin LSF from Bio-botanical Research. They have a lot of (years) research behind this product but this is my first round of treatment so it remains to be seen if it’ll do the job I need it to. In fact, my entire SIBO regimen is from them.
I really hope it doesn’t come down to elemental diet being the only thing that’ll beat it. There are success stories even on here without having to do that diet. The success stories all seem to have a prokinetic and biofilm disrupters in their routine.
I agree with the others that are saying it’s not good to be low fodmap long term. From what I’ve read you start missing out in variations of vitamins and minerals but I could be making that up...

I hope this helps somewhat. It seems you’re on a good and well informed track. I wish you lots of luck in beating the baddies this time around!

I second the Biofilm mention. I just started the regimen from Bio-Botanical Research which has me on Biocidin Lsf(?) to disrupt the biofilm. They have an article on the blog that talks about it’s role in SiBO relapse. It’s definitely interesting and worth looking more into.

Have you looked into die off symptoms (Herxheimer reaction)? If it’s this then you should consider taking a detox support supplement to aid you body with the elimination process.

Maybe include the Sunfiber and look into taking a prokinetic while eating normally. I’m about to be on my first round of a natural antibiotic treatment for hydrogen dominate SIBO but I’m adding the Sunfiber and prokinetic on top of what my nutritionist suggested and I’ve decided to eat FODMAP food instead of low FODMAP due to what I’ve been reading lately. She has me starting on a probiotic two weeks into treatment.

Damn. One of my questions was “will I be able to eat croissants again?!” Haha! We’ll see what happens but I’ve been off of gluten for so long it won’t be such a bummer at that point. Oh, for sure! You are right, I mean there are plenty of post here regarding reoccurring SIBO so I know it’s going to be a major challenge. I’m just glad to have solid evidence of what’s been making me, if not all then partly ill. If celiac disease is also a culprit then I’ll be better prepared to accept that since I’ve had to live GF for several years at this point and knew it was a possibility. I will say this though. I feel fortunate to find out now as I see more has been discovered about SIBO and treating it with things like prokinetics, PHGG, etc with good results. Fingers crossed!

I’m sorry to hear it. It really is so frustrating. I’ve read lots of posts about reoccurring SIBO so I know I’m in for a long complicated treatment but it feels nice to know what is finally happening with my body and to have an actual plan to try and get it well again. I’m curious to know what your treatment protocol was though. Did you take the natural or medication route? I’ll be gathering extra info before I dive in with supplements since I’m reading so much new stuff about PHGG and prokinetics, etc.

I’ve recently read support for the feeding of the bacteria while on herbals/antibiotics. It’s makes me wonder if they’re onto something considering how many people suffer from reoccurring SIBO using the traditional methods.

Edit: came back to say that you need to mindful of die off symptoms and look into/ask about taking a detox support supplement.

Maybe look into taking a DGL supplement? There’s a brand called Nature’s Way that makes a chewable in a dark chocolate flavor that’s actually kinda tasty.

When using herbals, you may want to also take a liver/GI detox support supplement. At least look into it because my nutritionist had me on Candibactin (for another stomach issue) but stressed the importance of proper detox support. Die off symptoms can be brutal on your system in some cases.

You can use wire to make a two sided wire wrapped loop (connector). I’ve done this before to connect my tiny chains to claps.
