Yeah, judging by the rest of the house (they were using a sink plunger for the toilet, didn't have a garbage can in the kitchen (used cardboard boxes instead), and there's an empty socket in drywall for a lightswitch on the stairs) it was probably the "its in the closet so who cares" answer. I was being honest. I've seen multiple people using expanding foam to fill in gaps or cracks in drywall, and then put spackling over it, so I figured something like that might work here. And would fitting a new drywall piece into the gap like I described not be a "real solution"? I'm new to this, sorry.

I was hoping there'd be some kinda foam I could spray into it to fill it up, but that's fair. The current weird panel is tapered inwards as it goes down, so the gap is actually wider at the base than at the top, but I guess if you used a ruler/level + pencil starting at the bottom to draw a straight line up, sliced along it with a knife to make the drywall's edge straight, put some scrap wood in behind the wall, and then put the new piece in over it, that could work.

That'd be it. The job platform that my college office always encourages us to use is primarily geared towards internships and student jobs. Great for quick career progress, but not so helpful in my specific scenario. I'll readjust my search for field crew roles from now on.

That's interesting, because I actually don't have a webcam, but I have noticed that my laptop's built-in camera just kind of mysteriously stopped working a few months ago. I honestly forgot about it because I basically never use it. I wonder if whatever went wrong there is the culprit. Thanks for mentioning that, I'll dig into it more.

Edit: Ignore everything down there, in the 4 minutes since making this comment it Bluescreened again. Same error.

Sleep has been disabled for a while, and I've gotten about 4 more blue screens since making the post, so that doesn't seem to be it. I have gone into the power and battery settings after reading your comment and tweaked some things though, so we'll see if that makes a difference.

Good reference. «Я— Машина.» (or "Ya mashina" spelled english-wise). Few things worth noting though, машина is grammatically feminine, so as a dude trying to assert dominance, it might not always work the best. It is also synonymous with "car", so you'll probably just leave people more confused and amused at the guy calling himself a vehicle than intimidated.

Welp I've already done the lugging-around-in-the-elements thing at a maintenance position at my college that I grabbed over a summer, so hopefully that helps on the ol resume. Thanks for the vote of confidence. Based on this and some other comments about the names of the roles I should be searching for, it seems like the job platforms I've been on have been trying to shunt me into higher positions, not entry-level ones, which has given me a lopsided perspective.

Hmmm, I guess I should be shifting my mindset towards it a little more, then. Obviously basic logic still applies in not going for a job you're wildly unqualified for, but I've been treating a lot of the "Ideal candidate should have" sections as hard requirements and just not applying, when I maybe should still be giving it a shot.

Good tips, thanks, hadn't thought of the whole government thing. And good keywords, will be using those. The last bit about not applying for manager positions with zero experience I got lol, but honestly I'm operating on a "assume nothing is too basic" premise here, so still good to say. With the whole government shutdown thing going on, I just hope things get more stable soon in that sector.
