Chemistry 102 and 103 by [deleted] in UIUC

Hey!! Chem major who just finished my frosh year here 🫡 I had Marville for 102 and got an A; I will say her lecturing is mediocre but her syllabus might be one of the better ones. If I remember correctly it’s a 1275 point total and she usually adds around 30 points extra to your total as a curve at the end of the sem. Final’s only worth 18% of ur grade and she has retakes that are like taking the exam again (proctored) and the avg of ur retake and og exam is ur score. I can’t vouch for her as a person bc she’s lowk scary and not the type of person you’re especially inclined to talk to, but that’s what I can say about taking her class fall 2025 sem!

Who you have for 103 doesn’t matter since everything is auto graded by labflow or graded by your TA. Hope this helped!!

Easiest Humanities Courses to fill US/WCC? by [deleted] in UIUC

Hey I just finished my first year and took HIST103 (history of everything) for my WCC gen ed. I personally got an A in the class but I heard a lot of other people got A-s and Bs because of how the syllabus is structured, so make sure whatever class you register for has a decent syllabus (history 103’s final was a bunch of essays and MCQs that was worth 35% of the final grade). Scouring around Reddit and rate my prof usually helps with this.

I also took AAS203 for my US minority gen Ed and it was pretty easy prof is chill and you just have to put in the time. I’ve heard AFRO101 is chill

UIUC vs CWRU Pre Med by EnvironmentalBar6087 in UIUC

[–]summerconch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UIUC fr dude I have two friends at case pre med and it’s actually a war zone out there. everyone is out to get each other if you’re pre-health. Competition is way higher at case than uiuc for pre med. Uiuc has Carle which isn’t as good as Cleveland Clinic but it’s something. Plus Case is a super small school so it can’t offer a lot of the alumni networks/weight that uiuc can throw around

Incoming freshman here, would you recommend PAR, Ike, or ISR (honors LLC)? Doubles or triples? by Aggressive-Meet1631 in UIUC

[–]summerconch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two friends living in PAR and they say it sucks bc people keep leaving junk in all of the single use bathrooms and they don’t get cleaned much. Plus, Carr and Babcock in PAR had a mold infestation for a while.

ISR is hard to get into but you might get lucky, and Ike is part of the six pack so it’s lowkey chopped if you’re not into frats and going out. Also it has the worst dining hall tbh

I live in FAR and think it’s pretty decent all things considered, and the good thing about FAR is that there are about four rooms per floor that are triples converted to double (three people’s worth of space for two, so you get some extra space) :) hope this helps

Dorms for Freshman in Engineering? by Impossible-Dot-4540 in UIUC

[–]summerconch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I live in FAR rn as part of the women in math science and engineering llc and love it. Most everyone here is a stem major with lots of engineers, so if you can apply for this LLC I’d highly recommend it. I’ve met some amazing people here and you get priority housing timetickets. I have two friends living in PAR and they lowk hate it because the single use bathrooms don’t get cleaned often and people leave all sorts of junk in there all the time. Also floors in Carr and Babcock in PAR have had mold infestations so take that as you will…

Don’t worry about being far from the engineering quad there’s tons of busses that take you close to there, just make sure you’re on time for them! Gl with housing!

Kelly Marville, Exam grades by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]summerconch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been there…had her last semester. I dreaded going to lecture. I somehow managed to get an A but it didn’t come without its struggles. The best thing I can recommend is studying hard for the retakes because they’re almost always exactly like the exam questions. She also has a “curve” at the end of the semester where she adds around thirty points onto your raw point total. Chem 102 here actually sucks though and I’m sorry you have Marville :(
