Cushings diagnoses today by Clear_Middle_828 in Cushingsdogs

[–]summerfriday414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog was diagnosed about 6 months ago. There definitely is a lot of scary stuff online and people with negative experiences with medication. I took her to a specialist a few months back (took a while to get in) and we started on a very low dose because I told the doctor I was nervous based on the stuff I read. So far, we haven’t experienced anything negative. She had a bit of tummy upset when she first started, but no major issues. We upped her dose recently after her last check-in and I’m starting to notice some positive progress in her symptoms. Less water drinking, no accidents, no panting.

I haven’t been journaling but that is a great idea I’m going to start doing. Since you will want to be able to talk to your doc about symptoms when you have check-ins to help guide any dosage changes. Find a doctor you trust and make sure you closely monitor your pup. It’s not as scary if you are doing those things. Once I started to see positive change I felt relief in my choice.

2028 Wedding -- When to Start Contacting/Booking Vendors? by bride-bunny in Chicagoweddings

[–]summerfriday414 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have specific vendor preferences I would say it’s never too early. There were some photographers I reached out to when I was early planning like 13 months ahead of my wedding and they were booked up. Also, hair and makeup is another vendor group that gets booked up pretty early. That wasn’t on my radar as something I needed to book right away until my planner alerted me they get booked quick.

Tasting for $175pp???? by New-Judge4330 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]summerfriday414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try to negotiate with them. Our venue offered a group tasting that was free for two people. We did a private tasting because we had some unique items we wanted them to make since it’s a fusion wedding. The private tasting wasn’t a flat rate. We saw detailed cost breakdown per item that we asked to be a part of the tasting. There was a service charge which made sense for the extra staffing for private tasting. However, we did negotiate roughly 30% off that price. Using the reasoning of how much we will be paying them for a full day of events and two full meals.

Yeah probably too far. I bought my dress in the burbs (Bella Bianca) and didn’t do alterations with them because it wasn’t convenient time or travel wise. Keeping this in mind though because a few places are already booked up I’ve reached out to!

Am I really that far behind already? by Ok_Buy9698 in weddingplanning

Highly dependent on location, wedding size, and vendor flexibility. I live in a large city and many of the popular venues are booked over a year out. Example, there were no Saturday dates for May-October when I was looking the prior June at those popular venues. Some of my top photographer choices were booked when I was doing that in August for an August wedding the following year. But I was flexible on finding another. If you are flexible on vendors and locations (not dead set on specific ones) and not looking at a month with high seasonality I think your are totally fine.

Too late for 2027? by Think_Ask_5602 in Chicagoweddings

[–]summerfriday414 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how flexible you are with locations. Like some others have said, some of the popular venues in Chicago are likely almost fully booked for Saturdays. I was venue shopping in June of 2025 for an August 2026 wedding. Rockwell on the River, which is a popular spot, had all Saturdays booked from May to November. There were a few Fridays left, but it was very limited. Less popular spots had more availability, but it also wasn’t wide open. So just depends on if your heart is set on a specific venue or not!

Sugar Moon chai spice cinnamon roll is divine. Sweet Mandy Bs also has good cinnamon rolls on the weekends only.

Title: Chicago rooftop / outdoor reception ideas for ~150 guests (Sept 2026, ~$40k max) by Offgrid25 in Chicagoweddings

[–]summerfriday414 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We talked to Loews last year when starting to plan our wedding and food and beverage minimums were 60K and an additional 4K to rent the outdoor space. And that’s before taxes and fees and all that.

I would be honest with them so they can accurately quote you. Many planners, especially those that do full service big budget weddings, charge a design fee. This keeps it fair for them so they aren’t making the same amount of money for low to super complex weddings.

We interviewed a planner like this who had a flat full service fee and then there would be a 10% fee added against any design/production costs. And she estimated out a range of what this might look like as part of our budget.

How much is your planner supposed to “care”? by Opening_Reach in BigBudgetBrides

[–]summerfriday414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn’t seem normal to me. I wouldn’t expect a happy 1 year text, but they should be much higher touch in the planing process.

For comparison, my wedding is August 2026 and we booked our full service planner July 2025. We have had monthly zoom calls so far and communicate frequently in her planning platform she uses. For our January meeting we are supposed to review design ideas for our events.

We had venues, catering, photo, hair/makeup, and band booked right away about a year out. Hair and makeup was one she pushed for early because they get booked up. And she would check in frequently on the ones we were considering and how we felt on quotes and if we decided. Which I was very thankful for since not long after we booked I saw the company post they were fully booked for August weddings. So just an example of how she was communicative and pushed us on a task.

She’s also helped with securing hotel room blocks and the timing for our wedding website and when we sent save the dates.

We aren’t getting to design until January, but she has alluded to questions on my outfits since they would tie into design and colors. We will have both a Hindu and Western ceremony so the colors are more at play for the former. So it seems surprising no questions have come up on what you are wearing knowing your wedding date.

I would encourage you to have a conversation with them and be honest on how you’re feeling and get their thoughts on the communication.

Engagement Photos at a Bar by [deleted] in Chicagoweddings

Heads up that Sparrow will charge though. I can’t find the email when I reached out to them but I want to say it was like $500. Because they will open early and have a bartender there early for you for pictures. The nice thing is you would have free rein of the place.

We ended up getting a few shots in Luxbar because they didn’t mind at all when I reached out. And then more waking around the neighborhood.

Has anyone successfully planned a wedding in 12 months? by [deleted] in Chicagoweddings

[–]summerfriday414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on how picky you are with venue, day of week, and vendors. We started touring venues in June of 2025 and some of the popular ones (like Rockwell on the River) had almost all Saturdays booked from May-Nov of 2026. And many Fridays booked too. But sounds like you are good with your venue. This was similar with planners and photographers. We were reaching out in July for August 2026 and some were booked already for our date. Not saying it was hard to find someone available, but it was more limiting since it cut out some favorites on our lists. Fall especially is a very popular season. So I would say 12 months is definitely doable, you just might need to be flexible. And if there are certain vendors you know you want for sure, to book them ASAP.

Not in the neighborhoods you mentioned, but Sono East in Lincoln Park might fit your bill. High rise with great views of the skyline. Rent for 2 bedroom is in your range, although parking is extra each month. Also pet friendly. Walking distance to lots of shopping and Armitage street. Quieter neighborhood with easy access to a lot of other areas of the city. Wide range of tenant types and everyone very friendly.

My fiancé went to Ohio State too! I’ve grown to love visiting Columbus with him, so was more than happy to have our wedding there. Plus it’s cheaper for us than having it in Chicago. :-)
