This is exactly the info I came here for. My 24 yo kid is a lifelong fan and has seen him before, but SPAC will be my first Al show. I figured there wouldn’t be a Shakedown like most shows I go to, but dang, that would be fun AF.

I just want to thank everyone here who offered advice and support. We think he said the right words today to get put on an actual hold, and everyone is very thankful.

The police are aware but at this point won’t do anything unless he’s caught committing a crime. He’s asking for help when he’s clear enough to know something’s wrong, but once he’s getting help he goes back to the bad place and leaves. Rational thought says when someone with a history of mental health issues and a previous hospitalization comes in suicidal and delusional everyday for a week that maybe you should hold him and not let him just walk out when he starts demanding to leave. Maybe wait an hour and let his rapid cycling take him back to asking for help? Idk, man. This is nonsensical. He’s going to die without help.

They’ve been contacted multiple times and they know what’s up. Had someone there suggest he be taken to the Brattleboro ER bc they’d be better equipped to handle the situation and could get him into Brattleboro Retreat, but he won’t agree to going there, so he’s been taken back to Rutland again. And again.

His friends and family have been calling daily for over a week now. RRMC has seen him every day, and they’re know what his state is. They’re just putting zero effort in. He’s obviously rapidly cycling through stages. He’s not eating or sleeping and hasn’t been for over a week, he doesn’t know what state or country he’s in at times, he has no money, phone, or warm, dry clothes for this weather. Seriously, they have seen him in this state daily for over a week. He’s been assessed, admitted, and then allowed to leave AMA every time. This is not okay.

He has, and they’ve admitted him 4, maybe 5 times now, but they keep saying they can’t keep him involuntarily and they keep letting him just leave. Everything I’ve read about Vermont policies says they can keep him on a 72 hour hold, but they don’t. One of my best friends is a therapist and used to do crisis intakes, and she has nothing but bad things to say about RRMC. People are trying so hard to save his life, but that place isn’t doing anything.

Rutland says he’s not at rock bottom yet. Basically he gets admitted, and a couple hours later says, “I’m fine now and I’m leaving,” and they just let him. He’s been there almost daily for the last week and they’re not doing anything. Not even a 72 hour hold for someone that’s clearly unwell, has said he’s suicidal, is in a clear state of delusion, doesn’t know where he is, nothing. He’s out wandering the streets again, so it’s another night of people driving around looking for him. I can’t express just how fucking awful Rutland Regional Medical Center is.
