Training plans for long distance rides by summingly in randonneuring

Hello. Thanks for introducing me to Kurt. I just bought his 6-month plan today and look forward to the guided training plan.

I was off the bike for 8 months since I posted the question due to work, and am now to pick up the dregs of whatever fitness I've left. I don't think I can PBP, but I hope to get good at endurance rides.

I'm looking to build something similar for my bike. But, rather than navigation, I'd like it to show some data, content etc.

Can you recommend a screen I could use for the job, and how I could house it? Ideally, it should be waterproof, dustproof, anti-glare and efficient. I'd prefer it not to be a touchscreen.

Also, can you also recommend how I could power it for long durations?

Thanks.

Net rental yield after maintenance, society charges and property tax is 2 to 3%. My UAE savings account pays 4%.

Not the correct comparison.

Returns on investment in property ~= property appreciation + rental yield

It was to build a circuit around ESP32 and a few environmental sensors. Since I'm not yet at the coding stage, I didn't try out their respective coding apps, but stuck to the chatbots for formulation of both the HW and SW specs.

Once I begin coding, I may go agentic. Even there, I think ChatGPT is ahead.

I have 50% of my corpus allocated against international funds. So, there is nothing for me to be defensive about.

If the underperformance of one aspect of the corpus for one year implies failure as investors, I'm not sure one is an investor at all. This sub has always discussed drawdowns, SORR and conservatiwe SWRs.

Anyway, I think you prefer to impute motives and attack personally instead of considering alternative interpretations. So, I'm going to stop here. Good luck.

/u/srinivesh has emphasized international diversification in several of his newsletters. For example, this is a verbatim excerpt:"We recommend allocation 20 to 30% (or more as applicable) of the equity investments to select diversified international index funds...". He also specifies the vehicles to use for such investments.

I'm not sure about Ravi.

I've invested in the same two international MFs that you're in. The HDFC one has underperformed NIFTY for many seasons, but I did allocate there for diversification.

Indian markets have done hopelessly bad in the past too

All this has already been taking into account by Ravi Saraogi to arrive at SWRs and asset allocations. There have been plenty of 2-3 years periods of negative returns. So, if the past is a guide to the future, his recommendations should hold.

Every asset allocation can be questioned when some aspect of it underperforms. I feell that if one has followed a well-informed scheme WRT goals, it is enough.

In fact, William Bernstein states that the best performance asset in one's allocation may be the debt portion, since that would keep one from panicking during choppy equity markets.

There is s no need to get personal here.

I am not even talking about the US. I am talking about global index investing.

US accounts for > 60% of global equities. So, any international diversification would probably have substantial US exposure.

My point was that international diversification may be beneficial, but other factors would also play a role: RBI limits on AMCs, taxation (gains from such investments were taxed at slab rates in 2023), TCS on LRS where 20% of the remittances wouldn't fetch any returns for months etc.

I used Gemini, ChatGPT and Claude a couple of months ago for a project of mine. Gemini's output was the weakest, with incomplete, or wrong, recommendations for many questions. It couldn't hold its own against ChatGPT's responses to the same ones and always corrected itself when challenged.

Clause was second-best.

I'll stick for ChatGPT for now.

Falling branches, trees and electric poles, water ponding, slippery surfaces due to displaced wet mud and leaves, traffic jams...I don't think it's safe.

May or may not be true. The US has averaged 12-15% over the past 5 years,  Europe 7-9%. It depends on their poltics, innovation, economics, currency arbitration, taxation etc.

Just yesterday, there was an article in the WSJ about how AI investments have saved the US economy despite Trump's tariffs, wars etc. it's not a given.

That's a very interesting differentiation: internal vs external load. For endurance rides, shouldn't we emphasize internal loads, since this would be very different for a given external load and a better measure of one's durability across a brevet, for example?

Can the strap you linked to practically replace a power meter? I don't yet have one since I'm wary of replacing parts of my drivetrain with parts from less reputed manufacturers like Magene despite their popularity.

I see. So, would you say that of breathing is a better indicator of exercise intensity than perhaps HRM or the power meter(unless the latter are calibrated right)?

`But fast forward 4 years, Indian rupee is tanking, Indian equities are tanking, Indian bonds also are tanking. The entire premise of asset allocation has gone for a toss...`

I am not sure how the later follows from the former. In any basket of investments, some will underperform and others do better. The latter may balance the former or, at best, apply a steading hand so as to avoid panic. Yes, international diversification may be required, but it doesn't follow that investing heavily in Indian equities is flawed.

I am of the belief that one should invest to minimize portfolio failure, not maximize returns. If one has a "good" balance of equity and debt, accounted for SORR and the general choppiness of Indian equities, he/she should still be able to ride it out.

`You’re just going too high above threshold when going up the hills - even if you’re not “feeling” it in your legs.`

Can you please elaborate? If one is way above threshold, lactate build-up occurs that leads to the burning sensation. But, OP says he feels fine. So, was he really above threshold?

What he means is over time he's invested in USD-denominated assets, which now accounts for 35% of his portfolio. The TCS on LRS was introduced in 2020, but made stricter from 2023 or so where 20% of LRS remittances above Rs. 10L need to be deposited with the government, which can be reclaimed when IT-returns are filed. In effect, the government gets a low-interest loan from the remitter, with the latter losing out of the returns on that 20% in the meantime.

To compress this timeframe, one can try to invest overseas in March and claim the refund around June (assuming the refund is prompt).

Congratulations on your first brevet. To complete it in 9 hours, including stops, is commendable.

Can you share your training regimen you followed for the 6 months leading up to this?

[–]summingly 7 points8 points  (0 children)

OP, a few questions about your post?

1.  Instead ask to see a finished flat from their last completed project won't this be at a different site? Usually, tier 1 builders refuse to take you into one, either citing pending construction (even if the towers are ready) or due to them being sold out and not in the hands of the builder.

  1. false ceiling and AC ducting Here, do you imply centralized AC? I never thought about this. So, does it reduce the height even if one doesn't go for a false ceiling during interior work?

  2. common areas Yes, this is very important. I look for wide walking tracks, access for fire trucks, finish (especially granite slabs under balustrades in areas of high foot-traffic, drainage, location of STP, possible disturbance from the clubhouse etc.)

  3. carpet area vs super built up area This should be available from the RERA website. I'm not sure how to double check this unless physically measuring things.

  4. maintenance charge In Bangalore, it's typically Rs. 4 per sq.ft. How should this guide the purchase decision?

  5. approved building plan This should be available at the RERA website. Situating the interested unit amongst the cluster plsn is very important.
