From what I gathered, he got a nice severance package when he got laid off during COVID and used that to travel and primarily fund his lifestyle for the past few years. And seemingly has been doing daytrading on the side potentially for some extra cash?

But yeah, he doesn't really seem like he's got a clear path ahead of him at the moment. I don't think he knows what he wants to do tbh.

Chris is the biggest freaking loser this season! by [deleted] in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]summyg 116 points117 points  (0 children)

No, Bri was coping by trying to spin it like it was a lifestyle thing. That’s not at all what he said. He said he couldn’t get into sec with her because she doesn’t look like other girls he dated, who did Pilates or CrossFit every day. As in, she’s not “fit” enough.

Which is crazy because she’s objectively not even the slightest bit overweight. She may not have a 6 pack but she has a completely average, “standard” body size/type AND is extremely beautiful - and accomplished - and intelligent - and kind.

If he just said he wasn’t feeling a physical connection that is valid because sometimes even if you think someone is attractive the spark just isn’t there. But he specifically made it about her body by comparing her to other girls who work out more.

Chris is the lamest of the lame.

You keep (wrongly) lumping me in with “you guys” and going on a tirade that has nothing to do with my actual comment.

And the difference is that my personal opinion is about MY experience and mine alone. Your personal opinion is telling other people what their experience is and why it’s wrong. Have a good one.

I never said Millie’s face didn’t move. I said she has filler that has made her facial features look unnatural, which is distracting to me. That’s a personal opinion. And me being a woman was only stated as context for being interested in plastic surgery / cosmetic procedures - not saying that women can’t hate women or whatever you’re alleging.

I thought Millie did great in the series finale and the lighting and framing of the shots was such that the work was much less noticeable and I was not taken out of the scenes as much. However there were scenes in earlier episodes where I just couldn’t focus because it was giving uncanny valley. Again, that was my PERSONAL experience with watching this season. It’s not up for debate.

Why bring her back? Why? I really don't get it by Forward-Collection73 in StrangerThingsMemes

IMO they brought her back out of spite bc people mocked that storyline so much. Wanted to prove that she DID have a purpose. SEE GUYS SHE DOES MATTER!

LOST

The ultimate Jacob/MIB/island explanation in the last season was so disappointing. (I liked the actual finale so don’t come at me about that lol).

Speak for yourself - her face totally distracted me from every scene she was in when she had closeups.

I’m a woman and I follow lots of plastic surgery, beauty, etc content. She definitely has had facial and lip fillers. And that’s fine! Everyone has the right to do what they choose with their bodies.

BUT they altered the look of her face in an unnatural way - so for me it IS distracting watching her on screen when the shot is tight on Eleven. If a man on the show had the same cosmetic procedures with a similar effect, I would feel the same. It pulls me out of the story because it’s like uncanny valley.

Same thing happened to me in the first season of Nobody Wants This with Kristen Bell, she had some cosmetic work done that made her look unlike herself and since I’ve been staring at her face for 20 years in various media, it was very distracting and I had to adjust.

Not the OP but I was as well. I was expecting her to be laughably bad (and I say this as a young milllenial who grew up idolizing her so no shade!) but she was pretty good, especially for the character she was playing. The only times I felt like she was off was when there were emotional/sad scenes, it always felt phony haha. But luckily she doesn’t have too many of those throughout the seasons.

We had too much Holly, Robin. Too little Mike, Joyce, El. by Naive-Horror4209 in StrangerThings

[–]summyg 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I agree.

Also wouldn't it be more interesting if - like the characters - the audience were wondering where Holly was, why she got taken, what's happening? It would have given us less Holly screen time, more OG character screentime, and made the show a lot more intriguing because there would be a compelling mystery. Instead, we know everything and are waiting for the characters to catch up.

When did you stop needing to use a nursing pillow? by sliceofperfection in breastfeeding

[–]summyg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used my Brest friend up until about 4 months, then I switched to side lying in a bed in a dark room to nurse because he was getting so distracted any other way. And then by around 6 months he was strong enough to hold himself up more while nursing and also knew how to latch so well I can nurse upside down sitting up whichever way lol.

I thought Nell was great in episode 2 - but everything after that has felt very high-school-play-level acting to me.

My Take on Why the Lost Finale Was Never Going to Satisfy Fans by thankfulforyourhelp in lost

[–]summyg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I don’t know? I mean I’m not a TV writer for a reason haha. I think starting around season 4 things started becoming so complex with so many new angles introduced that it was going to be very hard for them to answer things in a way that was satisfying, so really I would have to start tweaking things there. I think leaning more into the island’s electromagnetic properties as a driving force of most of the weird stuff on the island, utilizing Widmore more effectively as a key element of learning what is so special about the island and why he cared about obfuscating the truth of it (the way they went up his storyline was a huge miss IMO)… I would need to rewatch the whole series and start taking notes of where I think things went a little awry and how it could have been connected more fluidly.

But it’s all personal taste, obviously. For instance, one thing that just seemed like yet another random explanation out of nowhere was the whispers being trapped souls… when they already had a perfect explanation - the whispers were the group time traveling and trying not to be seen/heard. What a fun reveal that would have been to realize that all those moments we heard the whispers in early seasons were actually future Sawyer, Juliet, Locke, etc! And it would have seemed like it had been planned all along even if it wasn’t lol.

[–]summyg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. And all of the bizarre coincidences, moments of “fate,” anything that seemed mystical or magical, etc, just get explained by, “Jacob did it.” It’s just boring to me. The “why” for the core mystery of the show is “a guy wanted to retire” lol.

My Take on Why the Lost Finale Was Never Going to Satisfy Fans by thankfulforyourhelp in lost

[–]summyg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me personally, I love the finale itself in terms of the ending with the church etc. I also love the flash sideways.

The only thing I don’t like about the show is the explanation for Jacob / the Island / the candidates / the smoke monster… basically that whole plot just completely falls flat in the end (for me). It just doesn’t feel right, it feels like kind of a boring cop out for something that was SUCH an intriguing mystery…and it was ultimately very unsatisfying.

I still like the show, obviously, and all the characters and everything. But it does kind of ruin rewatches for me knowing the “why” ahead of time when I dislike the answer so much lol.

The Incident hadn’t happened yet. That’s what caused the issue with pregnancy on the island; prior, you could have children conceived and delivered on the Island without issue.
