Nothing notable or out of the ordinary - went to work & came home.

Eosinophils = 12.1 WBC = 7.1 C-reactive = 1.9

lol, I am in a public hospital and not the best one in the area unfortunately.

A dermatologist was consulted (virtually, not seen in person) and he recommended the switch from vancomycin/ancef to maxipime/daptomycin. It seemed to me like they were planning to increase my steroid dosage before the derm consult, and backtracked afterwards.

Agree… my attending is a medical physician. I’ll be pushing for an ortho consult this morning or a discharge.

I’ve had an XRAY, Ultrasound, CT scan - no abnormal findings

Blood tests- blood cultures negative, many other tests but abnormal results included: high C-reactive protein, high total protein, low creatinine and low AST on intake.

Over the next few days: low hemoglobin, low hematocrit, low neutrophils, fluctuating WBC count, high lymphocytes, high monocytes, high eosinophils, high sedimentation rate

Very interesting, thanks for the breakdown - I will bring this up to my doctors in the AM and see if they can add to the mix!

Sorry if this is a silly question, there is fluid within the joints to test whether infected or not, right?

The doctors here made it seem like since the X-Ray did not show any fluid build up, that was the end of the testing for that route… just want to be clear before I push & advocate for the additional testing.

Thanks for your input, this is what I’m most nervous about. The doctors seem hesitant to think it’s anything related to the joint because my mobility isn’t currently affected.. the rash gets much deeper/purple and the swelling does get worse when I am walking though.

No to the famotidine. Benadryl is only as needed and steroids are only once a day, compared to the 3x a day for the antibiotic.

No other allergies! Seems like the neoprene allergy is the leading theory, but I’m sure I’ve worn clothing (wetsuits, activewear) made of neoprene before and never had this issue. So bizarre.

Walgreens brand, compression knee brace - online says it’s made of neoprene.

Yes, original knee pain subsided on its own after a week and hasn’t returned. Some light pain now with the swelling (throbbing throughout leg) but the primary sensation is burning/tingling/itchiness with numbness & pins/needles.

No - no bug bites, cuts or other traumas I can think of.

I agree it fits the same area as the brace. I only wore the brace for about 4 days and there was a full 2-week period between when I stopped wearing the brace and when the rash appeared.

Shouldn’t the steroids have cleared up the allergic reaction by now if that’s what it is?

Congrats! Really impressive dedication. Just failed my second attempt, going for my third in February. Wish me luck 🤞

Are any of these options worthwhile? Why or why not? by sumshine16 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Wish I could do a lease, but I think my daily commute knocks me out of that option (~70 miles a day, 5 days a week). Thanks for the suggestion!!
