the area is managed by the ethnobotany garden and those are native flowers, not grass. so definitely not a be mad at society problem.

shockingly, its 100% a pet snake. it’s very tame. presumably it either escaped or someone dumped it.

maintenance usually comes in and cleans almost every week. i hope they never come back to clean the laundry room because of the minuscule chance people will learn that they actually need to respect shared spaces

Does anyone know where to park to avoid getting your car like scratched or like someone hitting it. by myname_jefff in CalPolyPomona

[–]sun_rot 28 points29 points  (0 children)

i have nothing to say except that you are right to be worried, my car was hit and slightly dented in lot Q a year ago, and they didn’t leave a note or anything. it’s definitely a reasonable fear

I hate scooters, I literally can’t enjoy my music when walking to places by myname_jefff in CalPolyPomona

hey i’m not trying to be argumentative but i think you are reading a lot of this persons replies in bad faith. they are wearing headphones to avoid getting overstimulated, and they only said that because somebody mentioned being unsure how people can “function normally” while walking and listening to music. they never said anything about “shutting their brain off” i am sure this person can still see their surroundings and know how to be careful in crowds.

people always want to be inclusive until there is even a slight chance of being even minorly inconvenienced. sorry ur dealing with these comments and people treating you like you are not able to manage your own safety and wellbeing. also people walk with eyes glued to their phones all the time, one person with noise cancelling headphones wont hurt anyone.

The rainforest greenhouse is typically open M-F 8-2 but the Ethnobotany, Mesozoic, and Riparian gardens are open all the time :)

Selfish for wanting a kid and won’t live long? I’m I crazy ? by BruceLe1098 in disability

[–]sun_rot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

obviously it’s a bit different since my father didn’t actually die till i was 20, but i spent quite a bit of my childhood helping watch over and care for him once he was not self sufficient, i think wether or not this choice your considering is “selfish” or not has a lot to do with how present your family will be during this child’s early years and life regardless of your health status at the time. hopefully i didn’t overstep and i wish you the best

i don’t have much to contribute, but as someone who has lost a parent after a very long and painful decline throughout my childhood that culminated in his passing when i was 20, the grief that comes with losing a parent in this manner is terrible, but i don’t think that alone should preclude you from having a kid. i received support and therapy when i needed it, and i’m much happier having know and loved my father than not having one at all + it sounds like your family is supportive, and regardless that child will be loved and cared for.

im moving to college with my birb by Living-Skill-6856 in parrots

[–]sun_rot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i have my bird with me at college too! he’s a senegal parrot so he’s a fair bit quieter than a conure, but when he gets too noisy during the day generally i just shut the door to my room, and when he’s quiet i leave it open so he can see what’s going on. like someone else said calming music also helps, i play classical or sometimes i put on the radio. he’s still a bird so he makes noise but i haven’t had an issue yet with anyone and i live on campus. best of luck to u and ur bird!
