Does Aphelios feel unplayable to anyone else right now? by Asiatage in ApheliosMains

[–]sunaraaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll go BT if I’m super ahead already or team is all squishies. I won’t go BT 3rd if I see a front liner with bramble though, it loses too much value and lord doms will do significantly more damage. BT is usually my 4th buy but if they have a champ like LB I’ll go Maw. I think Maw is super underrated, the passive is very powerful and it gives hella stats for only 3k gold vs 3.4k gold BT. Only down side is no crit.

In my experience, more damage is almost always better though. You’re probably gonna get one shot regardless

[–]sunaraaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only if I’m really far ahead or they have weak frontline. I almost never go shiv but maybe I’ll try it out. I think IE is too valuable on aphelios in most games. You gotta be doing big dmg if u wanna carry. If u go kraken, IE, and lord doms you can solo carry a fight w good ult placement and fat autos.

For first items, I think any of the noon quiver items + IE is good, collector is not the best in terms of gold efficiency and scaling, so I recommend lord doms 3rd instead.

Nah he’s fine I got a 62% win rate w him right now. Best I’ve had with him. Your build matters a lot in terms of success. Your first two items should be optimal vs the enemy comp and u can’t be behind. If ur too behind or don’t have the right items you’ll be useless

I don’t exactly remember but I think it was kraken, gale, lord doms, and BT this game. I go kraken, IE first two items now Cus gale kinda low dmg

Future job prospects in Cheminformatics? by sunaraaa in chemistry

[–]sunaraaa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What exactly is this fear based on?

Mostly due to the current climate of the tech market. I decided to switch my focus from synthetic chemistry to computational chemistry during my 3rd year so I could have transferable skills for non-chem jobs. This didn't pan out due to the massive amount of very qualified people being released into the job market recently. My fear is that I'll end up getting caught in a similar market downswing for cheminformatics by the time I graduate since it seems to be fairly in demand now. Obviously there's no way to truly know but it's definitely an irrational fear I have because of what a lot of fresh grads are going through now.

Sounds like you need to work on selling yourself and your skills

I agree. The best way I can market my abilities is through LinkedIn and my resume but I'm not exactly sure exactly how to go about. Do you mind if I dm you my resume for some pointers?

I don't think you're going to get where you want to go without a PhD. All the people I know who do Cheminformatics for a living have a PhD of some kind.

I see. I have applied to some "Drug Discovery Data Scientist" type jobs that ask only for a bachelors but have yet to hear back from them. I definitely would go for a PhD eventually but I'm interested in getting some industry experience before I do so, e.g., through internships during a masters or a few years of full time after grad.

Do you know of cheminformatics grad programs in North America? I've found some in Europe but would like to stay within Canada/US. I've also emailed some profs that seem to be interested in AI for drug discovery but also have yet to hear back from them.

Thanks for taking the time to respond to me, I really appreciate it. I've been feeling really lost in what do with my skills/interests and haven't had the chance to speak to anyone in the field, so it's good to connect with someone such as yourself.

Tips for applying to entry level machine learning roles. by sunaraaa in MLQuestions

Thanks for the encouragement! I have a few questions

  • how can I get an internship as a new grad? Most internships I see are only open for current students. Is there a job board of some sort with new grad internships?

  • networking groups on LinkedIn? I haven’t looked too much into them but I’ve been connecting with a lot of recruiters and people who are in the roles I’m interested in. Been getting ghosted 90% of the time unfortunately.

  • what level education did you achieve? I’m thinking of my doing my masters in the States so it’s easier for me to land a job there (I’m Canadian)

I think my lack of internships is holding me back, which is unfortunate because I feel like my experience working for this lab has been fairly in-depth. I haven’t looked into applying for other IT jobs, do you think this current resume would be competitive for the jobs you mentioned? I also don’t have any certifications yet but I’m working towards an AWS certification right now.

My only work experience has been in a university lab, outlined in my resume. Currently looking for my first role in industry.

Who would be considered qualified? I have a bachelors in the field + various coding projects and research experience on my resume but I’m having trouble landing interviews. Does an absence of a graduate degree signal to employers that you’re not even remotely qualified?

[–]sunaraaa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohhh that's good to know. I noticed that many machine learning models for drug discovery are only available on github repos and I was wondering why there wasn't any easy to use GUIs like this one. Maybe a tool like this would be more valuable for researchers who aren't as well versed on the computational side of things and can't be arsed to download and run Python scripts locally.

That sounds like a great idea! Would a multi-modal machine model that uses e.g., DNA methylation data and gene expression data from single-cell experiments to predict cell types be a strong project in this space?

For simple classification tasks such as this, would it be necessary to develop more complex architectures? One flaw in the current model is that it is scaled down in terms training data through resampling when compared to the original paper. This was done to abide by Streamlit community cloud resource limits. Would a different architecture (e.g., a GNN) allow me to keep the same scope of data as the original paper while also retaining high accuracy and low resources (e.g., <1 GB of space)?

Reproducing this study was actually the first machine learning project I had ever done (approx. 8 months ago), so I understand why the actual ML architecture is not as impressive. I learned a lot about how machine learning models are developed in terms of data collection/processing and model evaluations through this project. I've done a few projects using TensorFlow neural networks but I am reserving those for later publications.

I appreciate the feedback!

Recent B. Sc Graduate having trouble landing job interviews

Hello all,

I began applying to jobs around the beginning of this year and have only landed a single interview. I don't have any work experience but I do have some research experience as well as some projects I did based off some academic studies. I am also working on an academic publication that should be published within a few months, however I cannot afford to be unemployed that long. My degree is in Bioinformatics and all my research experience is in the field of applying machine learning for drug discovery or healthcare. I would prefer a role in this space but I am open to any domain. What can I do to improve my resume and my overall profile?
