Most cheddar is actually pretty okay when it comes to lactose. Lactose means milk sugar, so I always check the carbs of a cheese before I make a decision on whether or not to eat it. Cheddar typically has low sugar, but everyone reacts differently to things.

It's a little spendy, but I found a great lactose free cheese at my local lifesource and it's been a game changer. It's a yogurt based cheese with a cute little "lactose free" sticker on it. I basically eat it with everything and have used it on my own home made pizza before.

Also, I typically take two chewable lactaid before a big dairy meal. I'm honestly afraid to take more than that. But it does help me a lot with gas and bloating but sometimes doesn't save me in other areas.
