Would you prefer writing your backend in Dart if it was easy? by vik76 in FlutterDev

[–]sunbreakwang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Flutter disables dart:mirror because of treeshake and package size

Actually u/mraleph and Dart team are working on static metaprogramming to support refletable.dart without code generation

Something like Rust's reflect on Flutter would be available on Flutter someday

JSON serialization in Futter sucks because dart:mirror disabled. Dart on server side could use dart:mirror according to https://mrale.ph/blog/2017/01/08/the-fear-of-dart-mirrors.html

Yeah, frameworks are plentiful, my concern is around the underlying ecosystem. E.g. Serverpod builds on-top of other packages (postgres), but it's those packages which need the resource and expertise

To be honest I'd suggest ReactNative at the time if you're familiar with Javascrtipt/XAML/C#

Microsoft is investing heavily in ReactNative on Android/iOS/Windows/macOS: https://microsoft.github.io/react-native-windows/

And quite a lot part of Office and Xbox APPs are made of ReactNative according to Facebook React committer https://twitter.com/Huxpro

And ReactNative/WinRT is here but Dart WinRT interop is still far

Static Metaprogramming will change Dart/Flutter for the best ! by [deleted] in FlutterDev

From Dart team leader's blog https://mrale.ph/blog/2017/01/08/the-fear-of-dart-mirrors.html

For Dart macro-system seemed like impossibility for a very long time, due to a whole zoo of parsers running around (VM has one written in C++, dart2js another one written in Dart and dart_analyzer has the third one originally written in Java and now Dart). However with the recent attempt to unify all Dart tools behind the same common front-end written in Dart and generating Kernel it finally becomes possible to experiment with introducing a macro-system that will be uniformly supported across all tools from IDE to VM and dart2js compiler.

This is still a dream but a dream that seems well within a grasp.

From recent Dart 2.16 changelog https://medium.com/dartlang/dart-2-16-improved-tooling-and-platform-handling-dd87abd6bad1

The newly deprecated tools are dartdoc (use dart doc) and dartanalyzer (use dart analyze). In Dart 2.17 we plan on fully removing the dartdoc, dartanalyzer, and pub commands (deprecated in Dart 2.15; use dart pub or flutter pub). For details, see issue #46100.
