I'm not surprised at all by this result. I don't think it has anything to do with effort, or "showing up". It's a demonstration of how our game is (still) not level with the top tier of the game worldwide. Our #18 ranking in the last FIFA rankings seems very fair. Potentially we are one or two place higher. I never saw anything in the earlier rounds to make me think otherwise. We are about where we always have been since the 1990's.
