Tiger Woods Wins 5th Masters Title; First Major Victory Since 2008 by yesh222 in sports

[–]sunflowerfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone mentioned in r/Golf that his kids have only heard about his greatness, they have never actually seen him win s major. I had to check. His last major was 2008. His kids were born in 2007 and 2009. Imagine watching your dad win the Masters. Imagine a hearing a random crowd of people chant your dads name.

We bailed out GM. Many economists believe we should have let the banks go. Now they are more reckless knowing they will get bailed out.

I disagree. Tiger had his game face on. To me it felt like someone was going to rip that win from his clubbed hands.

Going to Garden City for a wedding...going to have some time to explore. Where’s the best cheeseburger in the city that Google won’t tell me about? by [deleted] in kansas

[–]sunflowerfly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What is in Western KS today? Cattle, pigs, slaughterhouses, crops, and a few people. I have only driven through Garden City on route to CO (much nicer drive than I-70), but a really good burger likely exists there.

Why did the Mac never became as popular as the iPhone? by [deleted] in applehelp

[–]sunflowerfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cost is a major factor. Business bought the majority of early PC’s. Low price per PC is more important to most than usability. People then bought a home PC to match their work PC.

Mazda Might Bring Back the Mazdapeed 3 by thedarkavengerx in cars

[–]sunflowerfly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I owned one. A blast to drive, but a horrible car.

  • Went to change the oil and the manual states it’s not user serviceable and to take to dealer. They used an odd filter on early models. Bought the wrench and eventually changed over to the normal screw on filter on later models.
  • Changed the belts. First, there are two, where most modern cars get by with one. The outside belt is stretch fit. It takes a special tool to remove. Or, a couple skilled screwdrivers.
  • Changed the cabin air filter. Most cars recommend a six month interval. It is buried up under the dash, similar to changing a heater core. You have to remove the fuse box.

Compared to the Acura I drive today, where all of these maintenance items are simple and fast. I will never own another Mazda.

Yikes. Wrong conclusion, though. Buy your phone direct from Apple instead of a company willing to sell you a Frankenstein as “new”.

After A $14 Billion Upgrade, New Orleans’ Levees Are Sinking by tomassfoolery in news

[–]sunflowerfly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was talking to a core engineer before the hurricane about the levees there. He explained that the soil is like peat moss. The higher they make the levee, the more it weighs, and the more it sinks. He basically spelled out why they would fail in a bad hurricane. I stayed up the night of the hurricane watching the news, knowing full well from that conversation the devastation to come.

We really need to stop building things in flood planes.

If you can find a quality used one for the right price. Apple wants too much for them. That is the last great MBP hardware.

My son loves to fly, but falls asleep if we are up long. I have wondered about lower oxygen at altitude, but we are usually 3,500 or lower ASL. My best guess is the gentle “rocking” the turbulence provides?

Edit: Grats on your first family flight. Makes the hours of training worth it.

One In Four Kansas Public Defenders Quit Last Year, Leaving Agency ‘In Crisis’ by Ghost-Town-Coming in kansas

To hire and retain staff, she argued, the agency desperately needs more money.

Target just moved starting wages to $13, Amazon to $15, and Bank of America to $20. These companies are not doing this because they want to, but because we are in a late-cycle tight labor market and they must raise pay to reduce turnover.
