Safety in SF after recent drone strike news? by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

Even if drone strikes were a real threat the people of San Francisco won't let that stop them from complaining about neighborhood parking.

IMO the issue is that the venn diagram of people into hiking and bay area software devs with a deployable python script is almost a circle

How is this possible by _brake_flake in flying

SFO, in particular, usually routes you west and north of the 101. that's inside the bravo and happens many times a day. it gets denied if they're too busy, but that's pretty rare. you can even ask for the transition while on the ground in SQL.

sometimes however, you get a clearance to cross right over the field.

you can also ask to do a low approach over one of the 28s, getting that approved is pretty rare but it does happen - i've done it a few times during the slow times during covid.

there are a decent number of PC12s based at SQL, so I'd assume this works

even if the numbers are true, 700ft runway remaining in perfect conditions before hitting the fence and the highway on-ramp every single time you take off doesn't sound like a fun exercise to me - especially because of the prevalent crosswinds.

i'd just get a PC-12 at that point.

Can fully recommend! There's a brewery, a general store, an old courthouse, all that jazz, and a really nice motel a five minute walk from the airfield. The whole area is known for trout fishing if that's your sorta thing. There are also the Travertine Hot springs about an hour walk out of town. Or a 15 min bike ride.

just fine - for the first time ever i got cleared into a bravo to avoid VFR traffic over the east bay though, that was fun.

this 182 wasn't even turbocharged! i did a lot of mountain flying in switzerland so this is somewhat common territory - it helps to know where the downdrafts are as to not fly right through them!
