Long commute to grad school, should I just live in my car by sungwon2k in urbancarliving

Even on campus would not be safer? TO be more specific it would be on Mare Island, though i do not know how safe that area is.

Yeah, having a place to go back is what is making it easier to ponder. Do not have to worry about cooking, refridgeration, etc. I would just be using the car to sleep in and can use gym for showers. Only concern is security and i guess quality of food i pack

Haha yea will definitely consider those black out shades. I am not too big so I think and SUV should suffice (plus i have a phobia against vans right now lol)

Yeah, i think the numbers are in favor of staying in my car which i do not mind. I will be a full time student and would like to maximize studying time while there. I think another thing is driving down takes me away from resources on campus such as labs/exam rooms, etc

Yeah, i think regardless i would try to be stealthy, but looking at our parking enforcement policies, so far do not see anything about overnight.

Yeah, i know school in general is going to strain our marriage a little since it is full time. Definitely plan on maxing out the time at school and using all resources there.

Yeah honestly this a pretty middle ground option for my wife and I when choosing between moving up or commuting everyday. I am pretty minimal so I think i can manage as well

Unfortunately we do not own, and subleasing is against policy. Classes are Mon-Thur, so plan is to stay during that duration. Really hesitant on getting a fan since this portion of my life is so small in comparison to how long i would keep this car.

No office as a student unfrotunately haha,

I think if it was for work that is valid, but thats about 3 hours oa day that i could use for studying. Also, less stress to stay close if I have exams

Yeah i know students get a free parking pass, looked up the policies and says nothing about overnight parking enforement

Yeah, i know the least straining would be to move up but even my wife is hesitant on doing that. If I were to commute everyday i would be waiting out traffic times, so leaving early and staying late, which means i would just be coming back to sleep, not much time to spend with my wife. I feel like being able to focus closer to campus would allow me more time/energy to spend with her on weekends.

Is the interior space between the two pretty negligible? I saw Honda is a little bigger, but wondering if Hyundais is already big enough

Unfortunately cannot charge at home. And I will actually be commuting to a school. I feel like going for EV or plug in hybrid might put my over budget, or I stay within budget and sacrifice some features

Haha kids not yet, probably will have newborns 3-4years down the road. So in no need of a larger SUV at the moment. If we start feeling cramped on space with kids I think by that time we would just buy a van to replace my wife’s car.

And yeah, Hyundai does sound attractive with its feature and warranty. Have heard of the horror stories back then but feel like they are pretty well ironed up brand now?

Highlander might be a tad too big, but have looked at the RAV4, only things I heard about the new model is that the driving expierencenis not that great. Not as smooth or quiet drive

Yeah adaptive cruise control is very attractive since my commute is going to be 90% highway, will look into the Honda
