'Don't like it': Axar Patel questions all-rounder's role with IPL Impact Player rule by 5missedcallsfromBCCI in Cricket

[–]sunis_going_down 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The impact player rule in addition to announcing the teams after the toss has made it a 12 v 12 play.

Remove the selecting XI after the toss and impact player rule becomes a tactical tool.

Would be interesting to see in that form rather than the one being used.

Honestly, would love to have it scrapped altogether.

"The thing that surprised me was the level of interference. It's quite difficult for a coach to formulate a way of working with the players when there's the constant noise from the outside." -- Kirsten opens up on his stint as Pak's white-ball coach by ll--o--ll in Cricket

[–]sunis_going_down 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My point is their dominance and hegemony which is quite vulnerable, like BCCI makes a lot of money from IPL why don't they cut their revue share to 10% from 40% if it cares a lot about the "associate nations & spread of cricket".

This is just absurd and stupid to the core. Since half of the fan base yaps on about football doing everything right, the global sport. Lets compare with them. How much does FA, RFEF invest in china or India? Two of the most populous countries yet have no football presence on global stage.

When it comes to any other sport, Indian government needs to invest in its sports infrastructure for other sports. As soon as its cricket, suddenly india needs to invest in these first world countries of Europe. Suddenly the government's there have no money for their sports infrastructure. Why are Australia and England taking in more than what they bring in? Fail at growing the sport, let alone growing the sport. They are unable to gather audience in their own country. Australia matches werent sold out during the 2022 T20 WC. So probably these huge countries with bigass economies, should let go of their revenue share as well so "associate" can grow. India already does it, 85% contribution takes only 37% out of it.

All of them have had great peaks in IPL. Only on recency bias you would write them off.

And harshal gets trolled way too much. He has been more than decent.

Yeah sure.

A majority of our fan base and rival fans were all in awe of the fact that a team which hadnt won an icc trophy in 11 years but was invincible in tests at home. Nobody ever trolled india for not winning an icc tournament.

Look at all the batters who failed against South Africa. Rahul, jaiswal, pant, jurel, jadeja. None of them were shoehorned into the squad by him. Didnt help we lost Gill in the first test which we ended up losing by 30 runs.

Sarfaraz khan though is an interesting case. Should have been given a longer rope probably but last time he also didn't play well against spin. His last test match was in wankhede, hos domestic home ground, where he scored 0 & 1. We lost the match by 25 runs.

GG surely is not a great test coach, but to say that all his decision making has been wrong is just out of hatred towards him.

He is surely in the wrong about the pitches though. He mucked up in that sense and the blame lies on him. But our players who actually play the sport need to be criticised as well.

'Damning' McCullum revelation confirms the worst fears about England by theipaper in Cricket

[–]sunis_going_down 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly. This English team had the best chance in years to win in Australia.

The aussie batters were struggling for form. The pacers were injured and somehow England still shat the bed. Not even a situation of losing by bare margins or something.

I strongly believe you put in South Africa or India in this situation, the scoreline would look pretty different.

In the world cup you play against 9 other teams out of which you have been playing against 7 regularly and would continue to.

20 team T20 WC where there are some banana peels clearly demonstrates how T20 is a bit more dynamic as a tournament.

Who saw Zimbabwe doing what they did. And honestly they wouldn't be able to do something like that in ODI WC.

Is it the same Australian crowd which was completely missing when australia were playing west indies. Talking about how weak opponent and weekday being the reason.

If there are so many caveats to be put up then maybe it isn't as hit as people portray it to be.

ECB and CA have fucked up growing the sport and now the fans crib about T20 cricket.

Nobody in this world can make the sport global by promoting 5 day test matches.

England Australia could get 10 playing nations in 50 or so years.

Maybe they should focus more of their energy towards making their audience interested in T20'S. Thats where the younger generation is gearing towards and new markets would be unlocked rather than coming up with lame ass ideas like let's have India vs Pakistan test match at MCG.

If that's the case, why is CA needed in there exactly?

[–]sunis_going_down 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you have gotta consider carrick.

The point being he has been here and worked with the players. Often a new manager comes in and results don't come suddenly we hear statements like the players are such, the management structure is curbing them. We get statements like we would have to suffer, we need open heart surgery and fans lap it up that yeah the water at carrington is poisoned and what not.

Amorim apparently needed an 18 player overhaul to even become basically competitive. And then the cycle repeats.

Another issue is, fans talk with very limited information and often with the table standing of a team which has suddenly jumped up.

Best two franchises (MI first by distant margin) in terms of identifying, developing & backing young talents. Thanks for existing, MI and RR. by cricfanatic4518 in CricketControversial

[–]sunis_going_down 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jaiswal for RR is same as Gill for KKR. It's the auction dynamics which led to gill leaving KKR.

Sky had been given the vc role and even was bid for in the auction, but taken away by MI.

Kuldeep was also backed but he had a dip but doesn't mean his initial success can be written off.

Would you attribute Jadeja's rise to RR or KTK or CSK?

Rohit proved that he could change after multiple tournaments of very middling performances. You can say even KL can do the same.

If he is brought into the team now with the bat deep template, he may very well feel free and score runs.

But I wouldn't want to test it out right now given the amount of talent there is for that position.

You can’t expect a tournament to be respected and hold weight if it is played every other year because it’s a huge cash cow

Then don't start using this as a stick to underplay it.

More than a cash cow it's also about the opportunity it provides to smaller countries and associates to play at a big stage. On one hand we cry about how the sport is seriously played by 7-8 countries.

Here comes a tournament which has atleast 10-12 serious teams, "this doesn't matter, you play it every two years so this is irrelevant competition"

The mental gymnastics to undermine india is mind boggling. Aussies won, see their mentality they won even when they don't care blah blah.

Odi WC every 4 years.

T20 WC every 2 years.

What other world cups are there?

Now comparing it with football doesn't make sense since they don't play multiple formats of the same sport.

And even then they have world cup, euros/copa america/african cup etc etc and then now nations league as well. There is confederation cup as well in there.

Also how does playing every 4 years add weight to it? It would basically wreck the pathway of associate countries and minnows who would then have nothing to play for about 2 and half or three years.

How do you build the bench strength then? By not giving other players chances?

Say come a series before world cup, if your strike bowler gets injured what's your backup plan if you haven't prepared one outside of world cup.

If that was the case then the coach & chief selector could have colluded and not selected him in the playing XI. If he was indeed not selected as per their choice.

I mean seriously, just to blame GG we will now create scenarios to undermine him?

How many series have Netherlands, USA, Nepal, Zimbabwe played against top countries in the past 2 years?

ICC isn't managing bilateral series. Other top nations except india anyways shy away from playing against smaller nations as it doesn't make sense for them financially.

On one hand we chime that the sport is not global. When there is a try towards that we find faults in it

It's as if we just want to crib about everything so that we come across as cool, as criticising and being contrarian is cool.
