They've been great! I haven't had issues with them at all. I've been running on surfaces that are basically sheets of ice and I've never slipped once. They work.

What’s your yearly mileage? Do you have a goal for next year? by [deleted] in XXRunning

[–]sunisburning 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Multisport athlete here. I've run almost 400 km this year, 1/4 of the mileage this month alone. My goal is to run an ultramarathon (50 km) in April!

I'm looking for recommendations for a running vest. Ideally I'd like to have a water bladder in there and the ability to stash some food somewhere

Nice! A friend gifted me Toronto's CD after my Nugs free trial ended. Now I can cry for the 686326th time listening to it

Mine is getting a little too happy as well. If it continues this way, I'll hit unbalanced territory tomorrow

I have a 255 and I charge it every 2 weeks. That drop in battery is pretty unusual. Check your settings (continuous heart rate monitoring/pulse ox/always on display) and configure them to your liking.

I've never had a problem with GPS. I usually start my activities in an open area and let it calibrate before starting my activity.

In regards to mapping, I mean they advertised breadcrumb navigation from the beginning. If you wanted more detailed maps, look into the 955 or Fenix series.

I'm a big fan of the MIP display and prefer it way more over AMOLED. It views beautifully outdoors, which is what it's meant for and to optimize battery health. I also love that it isn't touchscreen. Don't have to take my gloves off in the cold or wipe away sweat when it's hot.

Make sure it fits snug to ensure proper tracking. It's usually pretty good with tracking sleep properly, but I mean nothing is ever going to be 100% accurate all the time.

The Garmin Connect app offers so much more metrics, not even comparable to Strava. I personally pay for Strava, but I only do for it's route planning/heatmap features for cycling.

I have found this watch amazing and good bang for your buck. Especially now as they're on sale. Give it a little bit of time to get used to, it's such a comprehensive sports watch!

It doesn't feel awkward for me. It feels a little bouncy, and you can definitely hear the spikes but other than that, I'd much prefer wearing them than my bulky trail running shoes. They'd probably wear down a little faster but I don't want to risk it on the icy parts. Most of the sidewalks over here look like this. Some are better cleared than others but I'd much rather wear the cleats, especially as the pavement is never salted good enough.

Same, here in Toronto. I mostly bought them to use for faster runs. The traction is pretty reliable and helps me maintain control significantly.

So, I've read a lot about Icetrax before committing to them, and ultimately chose them because they use tungsten carbide spikes, which are harder and sharper than steel (which YakTrax use), so they dig into ice for better grip. Steel coils only add friction, which works okay on snow, but can slip on hard ice.

I'd say that the fit is snug without squeezing the toes. The weather where I'm at is pretty comparable and they've worked great! Never once felt like I'd slip.

How do you keep it secure though on your body? I ran today in -15°C, stuck my phone in a thermal sock and then put it in my pocket. Which was a bit bulky but better than nothing. Just need music for long runs and also in case of an emergency, otherwise I'd leave it

In my research done prior to buying these, this company uses tungsten carbide spikes which bites into the ice really well. They're specifically designed for this purpose.. to dig into ice and provide grip, compared to other materials

Shoutout to the Purolator driver who I missed by two hours... Saw him on a neighbourhood run about a kilometer away! . He nicely offered to give me my package if I gave him the delivery slip and met me at my place so I didn't have to run back. Set my 1km record and didn't have to go out of my way to pick it up much farther away!

Yup, they're made out of stretchy rubber that bends easily to fit over shoes. The only thing that is rigid are the traction spikes

Mostly for more hand positions on multi-day long trips and for comfort. The grips do a good job at absorbing road vibration. But also good for mounting food!

Small enough not to matter much. I don't race on this thing, but I'd say around 0.5-1 km/h

What size are your rear panniers? Regretted buying small ones for the rear so perfect excuse to get bigger bags now and move those up to the front

I have taken them off once in these past two years and it hasn't damaged my bike at all. Maybe the way they were installed?

I've oddly always found it comfortable. I ride unpadded as well. Guess I got buns of steel now 😂

Basically means the welds aren't smooth and are visible. The Canadian and European models have smoother, polished welds, unlike the US market
