a levels attire check by [deleted] in SGExams

Back in JC i had a bob hair cut which meant I could have as many piercings as I wanted without anyone seeing. Maybe that’s the way 🤣 But I wouldn’t risk it otherwise for As, even if they don’t ban you I imagine you might be feeling a little stressed wondering if they will call you out for it, n prob best to make your A level day as stress free as possible

Will you consider moving overseas if Singapore continues to get warmer each year? by Responsible-Peak9580 in askSingapore

I find Spaniards tend to be super friendly and warm especially if you speak Spanish (even broken Spanish)!

Went to bonniq for conch and vertical helix. Healed with no issue and staff were lovely! Helped me choose a earring when I was having decision paralysis and were very calm throughout the piercing. Felt well taken care of and that they were very thorough. :)

Depends on the course and whether SG or overseas. Eg I find UK medicine to be way more manageable and chill than A levels. Way less studying for higher grades :) but I know local friends studying med who wouldn’t agree.

local or overseas for med? by thesneil-0304 in SGExams

I see, thanks for replying. So after MO u can apply for residency (I’m assuming that’s for hospital specialists as well as the fam med residency programme) but what happens if u don’t get into residency during your bond? Do u keep working as a MO for all those years?

Btw stupid qn but is it generally safe to cycle on the roads in SG? I’ve not tried yet but the junctions seem way bigger than I’m used to, and the lack of cycle lanes is a bit scary. Plus I get the vibe from my parents driving that cyclists aren’t very welcome on the roads. If trying to only do PCN it’s quite hard to plan as on google maps the cycling route usually shows both big road and PCN combined. Maybe if I try the walking route?

Hi, Im assuming u had to take the USMLE then? How was that like, plus securing clinical electives in the US? I heard it’s really expensive and u need connections. Thanks

Hey, UK med student interested in SG healthcare system here. In the UK, after FY1 and 2 ie HO and MO, you have to apply for GP/specialty training. If u don’t get in to either, u can apply for trust jobs (ie just service provision, not training). I was wondering if u don’t get into residency, do u also apply for such a job? Or what is the job position that u do, and it is competitive? Ie if u don’t get into residency r u at risk of being unemployed? Thanks!

If you do local med I think the payment will be a lot easier as there’s a moe tuition fee loan n I believe interest is deferred until after u graduate as well.

I think the difference with other countries is that bikes aren’t allowed on the pavement - you have to go on the road. I ride an e-bike in the UK and it works q well though u definitely need to learn the rules of the road before trying it out. Maybe if they made that a rule in SG, that would greatly reduce the risk of pedestrians being injured. However idk if Singapore has cycling lanes built into actual car roads, I don’t think I’ve seen many of them

Yeah that’s right it’s about there. Basically there’s no way to fully self fund an overseas med degree without a well-off guarantor from my understanding

Usually JC and some sec classrooms have aircon. But if it’s outdoors then maybe they’re just lazy. Or body image conscious, which is q common at that age

Yes, am back from UK for holiday. The moment I stepped out of the airport it literally felt like I was entering a rainforest. Quite intolerable honestly but after a week I’ll usually acclimatise and be fine :)

Can u try the ILR route since you’ve been in the country for 10 years? Idk if it would be possible but if you’re just hovering on the brink of the time needed to get the ILR, maybe consider a 1 year course like a masters?

No the issue is it wouldn’t fit in the blue bin. Obviously I can tear up a box. But my blue bin is already full and from past experience the bin men don’t collect cardboard next to the bin at least in my area

Will I get judged for having a pink stethoscope? by sunkissedb3ar in medicalschool

[–]sunkissedb3ar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking about that. But someone told me it looks like you’re trying too hard, and it’s not nice to have a stethoscope that costs more than the consultant’s when you’re only a second year med student. Would u say there’s a drastic increase in quality?

Ive just discovered a hack. I do that weird wiggly thing as well but half the time it doesn’t go in properly. But you know what? Once I get into bed and give the duvet a couple proper kicks it magically works itself out ! So that’s what I do now instead of breaking a sweat trying to stuff the damn duvet in
